MOBA-styled 'Pokémon UNITE' launches on Nintendo Switch and mobile devices later this year

Pokémon UNITE is an upcoming title set in the Pokémon universe that was announced back in June 2020. While it is being officially described as a "strategic team battle game", it bears similarities to MOBA titles. The game will launch as a free-to-play title on both Nintendo Switch and mobile platforms and today we got some more specific window for the release, as well as a brand-new cinematic trailer with glimpses of the gameplay:

Pokémon UNITE
will launch first on the Nintendo Switch this July and in September for mobile platforms. It will support cross-platform play between Nintendo Switch and mobile devices, allowing players to battle together and against one another.

too bad someone can't even use google, Sino-Japan war ended 1945
Stereotype China hater spotted, or should I say a racist mod?

Sorry to crash yer dream but in 1944 ur Anime maker nation was still a rapist and a fascist murderer.
lol alright, if you say so. It's not racist to hate the CCP. Nor did I mean the Japanese nation. I guess the Italian school curriculum forgot the European part of 1944.

Fun fact: The ones who fought most of the war was actually the ROC. In fact, the war was one of the reasons why the CCP was able to eventually take over.

Yepp I know. They even thanked the Empire of Japan. If it wasn't for them, they would never won the civil war.

For me it's more that they just make shitty games, and usually P2W to boot.
tencent also made LOL and Valorant, i dont see them as P2W, beside that LOL franchise is also on mobile, u spotted any P2W traces rather than any cosmetics?
Jesus, u guys are so in rush to make judgement even before the game got released. P2W is Ubisoft or EA's speciality, don't mistake it with others.

I don't care TOO much about Tencent, I've played some of their games, quite enjoyed Arena of Valor on Switch
But I really don't give a damn about Pokemon Unite honestly. It's just one of those games where it's obvious they just wanted to use the Pokémon franchise, mix it with a subgenre that works on mobile and do something. The idea wasn't to make a good game, it was to make a profit.
Doesn't prevent it to be a good game tho. But Pokémon disappointed me way too much for way too long and it still does. At this point I really do not want to play any game they can produce. Didn't tried Pokémon Snap, nor Mystery Dungeon DX, not going to try this. Maybe I'll try Legends Arceus tho, but not those garbage spin offs. I'll consider that when their mainline games will actually be good.

Riot Games =/= Tencent. Yes, Tencent owns Riot Games but it's not Tencent that has their talent. They still have some independance. It's not Tencent that recruits and manages the teams behind the different projects of Riot. They just want to be sure Riot is profitable.
Tho I suspect they still have some influence because I can't think of Seraphine being released for the western market or just because the developpement team thought she would make sense. She's obviously made to catter to the Asian/Chinese market where this kind of character is very popular, despite her not making any sense in the LoL universe and gameplay wise. But they may be led to do such things, it's still Riot which tries to do these things « as best as they can » (between quotes because I'm not too sure about that tho)

But this is still a bit different, it seems that this is developped by a studio specifically made by Tencent, meaning they really do have absolute full control. Riot knows how to make profit without too much p2w mechanics and try to catter to the whole world. Riot doesn't make games to catter just to the Asian market. Tencent with this game, totally does. And idk about them being used to P2W mechanics but I don't think it's quite fair to compare them to Riot because they own them.

I mean, they own half of Epic too. Do you think it's Tencent behind the strings of this stuff with Apple ? I know people in the west are scared of chinese but I don't think there's a Tencent executive manipulating everything in the shadows when they buy a company, they just want a shit ton of money and become some kind of Evil Corp. just like in Mr.Robot. That's scary enough.

Well, both were developed by Riot who has plenty of problems of their own, and neither are very good, though admittedly they aren't P2W at least. They also didn't start out as mobile games, so their quality wasn't hindered or limited in that way.

god when gamefreak/nintendo sold their souls to china just to stamp out Piracy in China (calling it out like what it really is) I lost MAJOR respect for them if nintendo was a US company it would have been a hell no from them being also pressured by our government

bruh i'm talking theoretically. sega will give pokemon the proper attention it deserves and make good games for it. heck if they gave it 0.1% of the love smt and persona get it will actually become a proper franchise and not a yearly shitshow
If you want to talk bad Pokemon games, XYZ is where it starts.

Sega just publishes Shin Megami Tensei and Persona. Seriously. Atlus develops the games along with P Studio and Criware who do the other maintenance and editing. Sega would just, well, harvest the idea and republish Pokemon games where the only new feature is the ability to catch Sonic.

which actually would be more impressive to say

I usually watch Smartphone and Gadget Reviews from South East Asia to see what's available in local markets without import fees, and the prominent one has always used Mobile Legends to review each segment of Smartphone for the past years, at least since 2018. I was mostly living outside of the Region prior to that, unfortunately.

They cater to the major Smartphone Consumer Demographics, which are mostly Teens to Young Adults here, with their Purchasing Power and Disposable Incomes.
Pokémon GO has never been the choice Game to Benchmark with; the 3 mostly used are Mobile Legends, PUBG Mobile and Genshin Impact.

Mobile Legends was released in 2016 so I assume they could run some of the 2016 Line-up, though my information of their use on Mid-Rangers only goes as far back as 2018.

The younger Generations here purchase their new phones based on how well it performs in at least MOBA Games, and even those in the Kampong find love through playing MOBA together; to say the genre hasn't taken on a Social Life of its own is ignorant and I believe Pokémon is trying to cater to this Demographic, both here in 655+ Million South East Asia and 1.42+ Billion China.

In simple Mathematics, that's 2x and 4x the United States' population respectively.

The European Union's 455+ Million takes more Localisation efforts than the United States, so not really a priority for Profitability compared to just the aforementioned two Markets.
