With this, Metroid Dread, and SMT5, Nintendo won E3... and I don't even own a Switch!
Pretty sure that may very well change before the end of the year now - just keeping my fingers crossed for the official Switch Pro announcement, and hopefully a release later this year.

I know it's 2 awesome games... I've played both to death myself, but that full rrp... I just can't see it flying off the shelves: it'll put off any newcomers (doesn't help combined with those basic looking graphics IF you're not a fan of the games), and at the same time, because I've played both games to death, and because I have the originals on various machines already, I'm not sure about taking the plunge myself.... Kudos to those of you saying day one purchase etc, but full whack rrp, I'm just not so sure..

Looks kinda odd but im still getting it because in its core i get good old Advance Wars. That was biggest E3 suprise for me.

I am also dubious about the graphics, especially if I get to contrast it with warioware from the same presentation that actually managed to do a decent take on 3d models of stylised sprite work. Indeed I might even go look at Battalion wars -- for all its failures it still managed something good there

AW 1+2 gameplay was probably the peak of the series for me in many ways. I could appreciate the more fun things to do the later games had but there is something to be said for the rock-paper-scissors approach where later stuff... even if I still enjoy it a lot I think I would pick up series rival daisenryaku instead.

Hopefully whatever number crunchers are using this as a straw poll get a decent accounting of what people liked and did not like, however that is probably more optimism than is warranted.

These looked great. I appreciate that Nintendo is digging back in the vault and unearthing some great games for a new generation. Advanced Wars 1 and 2 were the first tactics games I ever played. Saturday mornings cozied up with my GBA. Nothing beats that feeling, or those memories. I think it's neat that a younger generation has been given the opportunity to form, and later carry on that memory with them.

people have been complaining we have got an advance wars in years. same people wouldn't even buy this to support it. i hope im wrong tho.
I definitely am. Thankfully, an indie developer took it upon themselves to create a clone with WRPG themes called Wargroove, and we've had that on the Switch since 2019. This said, I've been holding out for a new Advance Wars going on literally 15 years now.

This is a super creative way to get to my wallet, too, because it either pushes my nostalgia button when these remasters do come out, or they give me an opportunity to play a game I never got to play as a kid due to growing up poor. I had to miss out on large swaths of the GCN, GBA, NDS, and Wii libraries, so I'm more than happy to pay for games to play on official hardware that can also be taken with me anywhere I go.

As a huge Advance Wars fan, I sure hope that isn't the case either.

Hype time.

Not a fan of the new art style, but maybe this will spark some more developer love into the tactical rpg genre :D

I kinda wish they'd release a huge collection of: Famicom Wars, Super Famicom Wars, and Game Boy Wars Turbo(1), 2 and 3. Apparnetly the maps from Fami and Superfami was included in Advance Wars and its sequels in the War Rooms and whatever, but still would be neat to play a remake of these oldies.

I like the toy look of the units. But something is off about the portraits, for one thing, the winner doesn't react, only the loser does.

I think the only way they will do that, is if the series becomes widely successful. They would still need to get all that translated, if they don't change anything.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but they do seem to react.

Oh, I take back what I said then. In the trailer it didn't really show that off, but in the gameplay, they do in fact both react. I didn't even know gameplay was shown already.

Loved this as a kid, but don't think it will hold up. I don't like fire emblem any more. got sick of the tedium of moving units one by one. and autobattle sucks.

Holy shit, they remembered one of the best turnbased RTS exists. Only took them one and a half console generations. Hyped.

i'm just being a nit picky asshole but Advance Wars is a Turn-based Strategy (TBS). "turn-based RTS" is contradictory.
