Hey there folks,

my DSi XL won't charge no more. I have plugged the power supply into the unit. The charging light blinks for days now, but the unit won't turn on. I miss my clubhouse games, please help!

Best regards

I have played clubhose games with the dsi and put it away. It stayed at that place without being touched. When I picked it up again to play a round of chess it didn't boot up. I've attached the the power supply, but that didn't change a thing.

In short: the battery should be inserted correctly.

Try removing the battery cover and reinserting the battery, that could fix a bad connection.
Oh wow, the screws are so tiny. I will ask a friend, do as you've described and report.
Do you have a voltage meter or anything else that could be used to make sure that the battery is working?
I will do that as well. Thank you very much!

I've had a similar problem in the past. Try checking your F1 fuse.

(just in case you didn't know where it was)

This is what the battery looked like. The multimeter read 2.8v. Am I screwed?

Ive cleaned it up and connected the power supply, no luck...

Corrosion? That doesn't look very good... 2.8V sounds a bit low but it should still be able to be charged, although maybe not if the battery got all leaky...
I'd try using a different battery, a non-XL DSi battery will also work if you hold it in just to make sure that it's working. Be sure to clean the battery contacts in the DSi with some alcohol.

Does a NDS Lite battery work?
It won't fit there and it's also missing the third pin from newer batteries. Theoretically you could connect it there with some messy wires, you could also power it with a variable power supply set to ~3.7V like that, but I wouldn't recommend doing that as it's easy to mess it up and fry something or cause danger to yourself.

If done correctly, should the unit boot up as if a charged battery is inserted?

Thanks for this information. I could get a professional to attach a variable power supply. I also could buy a new battery.

This is the cheapest offer I've found at 2000mAh.

This one is a bit more expensive.

I think its also worth considering a used 3DS at this point...

I do like the feel of the dsi xl, I prefer it over the old 3ds but the new 2ds/3ds consoles are much better!
It seems a waste of the dsi though...

Yeah, I'll try to fix the DSi first. The 3DS holds his value on the used market still. Perhaps because the is no successor to the 3DS? Any predictions?

The cheaper replacement battery has more mAh (2000mAh) does that mean it holds charge longer. Which one should I grab. Maybe I'll just test my luck and hope the unit itself is not defective.

It's a cheap no-brand Chinese battery, the advertised capacity is most likely fake and possibly even lower than an original battery.

I'd say: get the cheapest battery...

(Just dusted off mine, put some charge in it, loaded memory pit, twilight, nand backup, unlaunch: ready to roll!!)
