Hello everyone,

I've got a switch "2nd handed" still not hacked yet but hackable with a dongle.
What are the benefits not to upgrade it ? I wonder if I could still hack it once the latest 12.0.2 (?) original firmware installed ?

Thanks :)

The only advantage not to update is if it is on a very old firmware (4.0 or below I believe) then you can use another exploit where you don't need a jig and a dongle. But if your firmware is newer than that there really isn't any advantage to stay on your current version.
Even if you are on a low version you might end up finding the RCM exploit to be the one you choose.

  • 11.0.0 is the last version supported by SX OS, so if you refuse to migrate to Atmosphere, you have to stay on 11.0.0.
  • If you have an ipatched Switch, if can't be hacked without a modchip unless the sysMMC is on 4.1.0.
Those are the only big reasons not to update.

Since we have the ability to avoid burning fuses thus preserving a path to downgrading, there isn't much reason to not update. However certain homebrew applications and CFW do not work on higher firmware versions. Also many people experience the most issues when updating so only update when a game or other content requires a higher firmware.
