The first six Final Fantasy games are being re-released in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

Square Enix is re-releasing the first six classic Final Fantasy games. Rather than remaster them with new art-styles like they did in the mobile releases of the Final Fantasy games, this Pixel Remaster collection intends to keep the 2D pixel art that the games originally had, while still modernizing them. More information will be announced at a later date, but for now, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster has been confirmed for PC and mobile devices.

LOS ANGELES (June 13, 2021) – During the SQUARE ENIX PRESENTS summer showcase, SQUARE ENIX® today announced that the six original FINAL FANTASY® titles that inspired a generation of RPG Fans are coming to life once more in the FINAL FANTASY pixel remaster series. Fans and newcomers are invited to dive into six masterpieces that bridge the ages with unique tales of epic adventure. The company will release the beloved titles individually, from FINAL FANTASY I through FINAL FANTASY VI, for Steam® and mobile platforms.

Weren't the GBA versions like flawed somehow? I remember people specifically mad about the audio quality and there loads of rom hacks about it. Including many bugs or glitches for some games.

Not that I know exactly, since I only ever played final fantasy iv advance, and I didn't have much problem... except maybe a bit difficult. :ninja:

Yes imagine the GBA ones it isn't going to be as crisp as the PSP versions or maybe I can be wrong maybe they will be as good as the PSP.... but if you have a PS Vita or a Switch idk if you really need it. I honestly never got into Final Fantasy the only games I complete was Mystic Quest for the SNES , Crisis Core for PSP and FF Tactics advance for the GBA. I kinda hate turn based but I enjoyed FF Tactics advance.

Ah yes, all of the ones I recently bought, in one single bundle, how great :D

Don't worry, it's not a bundle.

Calling it 'pixel perfect' is a high bar as even retro enthusiasts can't agree on what the 'correct' presentation should actually be wrt pixel aspect and CRT shaders.

I don't understand the point of this. All of these games have already been re-released in some form (some have numerous ports I believe). When I read "pixel remaster" I was expecting them to give it the Octopath traveler treatment or something. I'm so tired of these terrible compilations of games that already have modern ports. Knowing Square there's no doubt in my mind that this will be way overpriced too

Hopefully they throw out the absolute disgraces that are the ff5 and 6 releases that are on steam. From the looks of it they are just versions of the psp anniversary version of ff4 for all the first 6 games. The sprites are super clean in that version so I have high hopes.

It's weird that there hasn't been any kind of re-release of Crisis Core yet; I have no doubt that there's lots of money to be made. There are reportedly fan updates to improve it:

Did the fan restoration efforts for those versions ever get anywhere? Or did people just give up?

underwhelming.... if they were penultimate versions including all versions of them, then maybe i might consider being content...

but im quite sick of ports....

if they had say.... FFIV with OPTIONAL : wide-screen + spoony bard dialogue + refined menus with QOL shit like sorting + GBA additions + DS additions + TAY +..... something else i dunno lol. and had each thing OPTIONAL so u can customize your experience THEN..... THEN i'd be happy.... and probably die from happiness so.... maybe not? i'd like to keep living (also optional)

or better yet.... FFVI.....

sure the octopath looks somewhat interesting, but to me its a bit of an eyesore after about 10 minutes. its like you have extreme tunnel vision, everything outside of the smallest area likes like a burnt-out blurry-eyed mess. No it isn't always sunset, no i haven't downed a fifth of vodka, so please stop giving me a migraine..... i'd rather see a virtualboy port lol

From the presentation it looked really lazy.
I would hope they have it somewhat updated and polished at the very least. Would also be nice if they'd include the FF4 after years as a bonus, and also go with the most polished version of each game.
Like the PSP version of FF 1 and 2 (or the GBA version), and, I don't know... just include as much content as possible.

But the feeling I got from the short little trailer: "basic rom in an emulator"-port.

Would like to see more about this "pixel remastered" version of the first 6 games, because the presentation that they showed, it seems to be ports of the gba/snes/psp version of their games.

I want to play a good version of VI again. Every version after SNES disgraced it. It could be even better than what it was for SNES, but so far no.
