Hi,
Thanx, I will try
As Brian Molko says, ..... and start again, start again.

EDIT : Absolutely no change inloading time after deleting retroarch.cfg
For Example :
21 seconds loading Mame 2003+ Core
Total 25 seconds loading Outrun Arcade + Mame 2003+ Core
Hi. Try deleting/renaming "assets", "info" and "media" folders. Your interface may look messed up but it'll work faster.

Hi
than,x for the advice
I will give a try.
On the other hand, one of the reasons I changed my Wii for a secondhand Wii U was to get the nice interface on full functionnality (including retroachievements) on Retroarch, so having to wait a little bit (a big little bit I admit :) ) is not dramatic.

Retroarch FINAL.

That's what the focus should be on now.

Get the Retroarch base fixed - USB controller support - Folder structure - fast as possible loading.

Then the knowledgeable Wii U fans can get the theme spot on.

Put packages together similar to Coin-ops on the original Xbox.

Job done.

I just tried out 1.9.5 and it looks like a few more cores extract zips straight to RAM now. Genesis Plus GX and VBA Next now load most games within a second or two. Most impressively, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories only takes a bout 3 seconds to load from zip in VBA Next, whereas before it took about 15 seconds. No change in mGBA.

Am I the only one excited about all the improvements lately? I know there's still the Pro Controller issue but there have been improvements on most other fronts.

That's great news! I'll have to check that out :) Sound's like not all Cores support extracting to ram?
Looks like I'm going to have to zip my roms up :P

As a certainty, he is not the only one! lol

I haven't updated my retroarch yet because of the controller itself! But my animation of loading a game and loading it quickly is high. I hope the loading of the retroarch itself will also become faster over time.

I did some tests, loads times seem to take about 7 seconds for genesis plus gx, this using unzipped rom files with reload core disabled, cache info enabled and menu driver set to rgui.

It's definitely an improvement but I've never been able to get load times faster than that, even when just switching content (reload core is disabled as I said).

Some other cores have worse load times. nestopia takes 9 seconds (which is something I didn't expect).

I'm using a class 10 sd with 64kb allocation unit size.

Can someone help me?

For the life of me, I couldn't find the core settings to enable info cache files, and disable reload core.

It's supposed to be under settings>cores right? Mine doesn't have it

I'm running 1.9.5 at the moment.

Do you happen to know the read speed of the SD card? The class number only relates to write speed.

For reference, this is what h2testw rated my 64 GB / 32 KB cluster / FAT32 SD...

Writing speed: 28.8 MByte/s
Reading speed: 80.4 MByte/s

I might have a slower card I can try a few things with when I have some time. The only other thing I could suggest is to delete your retroarch.cfg and start from scratch, which is what I always do when a new version comes out in case any of the defaults were changed.

You probably just need to enable advanced settings.

Settings > User Interface > Show Advanced Settings > ON

And then set them like this:

Settings > Core > Cache Core Info Files > ON
Settings > Core > Always Reload Core on Run Content > OFF

It is a canvas select plus, the reading speed is 98,7 MB/s

Any test an HD / SSD?
I tried it with an SSD attached to USB. There was no difference whatsoever in load times even with bigger ROMs. This is to be expected since the Wii U only has USB 2.0 ports, which max out at 30-40 MB per second. I don't think it's even using the full speed of my 80 MB per second card in the SD slot.

Long story short, you'll never see any benefit from using SSD on Wii U. A 40 MB per second SD card will be just as fast as anything due to the limitations of USB 2.0.

I dug up an old 20 MB per second SD card but load times weren't much slower on it. It was still 1 or 2 seconds for even the biggest SNES and Genesis ROMs. I don't know what the problem could be but you should really try starting from scratch and see if it's any faster.

If that doesn't work, maybe it's the cluster size. I don't have a spare SD big enough for 64 KB clusters to test this right now, unfortuntely. Maybe if you have a smaller SD card lying around you could try it with a fresh install at 32 KB clusters.

I just saw a very interesting PR on the Retroarch github :) I'm not sure if this is the Pro Controller fix we're after and I haven't got a Pro Controller so I cant test :/

But fingers crossed this could be it
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/commit/973f5cda6d2921b46b4b71a1f90fbf54d33dca92
I checked it out but didn't see any new settings. Maybe it's still in-progress? I even tried manually setting the buttons on the Pro Controller with the gamepad as controller 1 but it didn't work.

As an aside, Pro Controller support was completely broken for a while but works fine now as player 2 at least. If you disconnect the battery from the Wii U gamepad and start RA with the Pro Controller active, you can use it just fine as controller 1. However, if it goes idle it won't reconnect when you turn it back on.
