Hello! So i'm planning to get an Xbox 360 soon because i want to play some games that i didn't have the opportunity back then but id like to hack it if possible. Which Xbox 360 model is the best to hacking? When you hack an xbox 360 how do you run games? via Isos?

I don't have any experience with rgh (have 2 jtags myself), so which is best as rgh, I'm not sure. I've heard a falcon is the best phat model when it comes to boot times, slims (not sure, just don't get a winchester board). I'm thinking trinity is the best from what I've read for slims, but I'd wait for someone else with more experience with rgh specifically.

we don't use iso files. we use jtag rips (folder games) or god games (games on demand, which are the games you'd download from xbox live. they're nearly identical to nxe rips, rips that you make with the console officially, except they don't require a disc in the tray).

It depends on your hacking and soldering skills. I have a jasper with cr4xl chip and it's instaboot always. The jasper are the only phat models worth your time but they can be noisy. Almost all the slims are ok but they use a cpu+gpu chip with ihs so changing thermal paste (mandatory on all models) is more complicated.

Phat Jasper and Coolrunner Rev C is great, it's as durable as the slims and instaboots (6~ seconds) every time if you get the installation correct. The installation is, in my opionion, much harder than any slim since you have to wire the cables in a specific way and avoid certain areas to get it working. Changing the paste was much harder as well, dual coolers and the paste was really dry. Haven't done any Falcons but it's recommended to get a Japser if you want a phat since it's the last revision of the phats and less prone to RROD.

Slims (haven't touched Slim E) with Trinity motherboard are much easier in my opinion when using ACE v3. You probably won't get same boot times as with a Jasper but from 6-20 seconds. You could use Coolrunner Rev C as well but have to solder on the chip as well to get it working. You need to program timing files on either chip.

If you get a Slim with Corona motherboard you might need a SD-reader instead of JR Programmer/Nand-X but it all depends on if it's a 4GB version or not. My first RGH was a 4GB Corona and I used a Maximus SD Tool with QSB to hack it. You might also need a Postfix-adapter but you won't know until you open it up and remove the CPU/GPU cooler. Probably have to bridge some points on the motherboard as well.

TL;DR: Slim Trinity is the easiest to hack in my opinion, followed by Slim Corona. They all require soldering unless you flash your DVD-drive to play burned games.

Actualy, just avoid early models the ones without hdmi ports and memory cards. But they're beautiful. They tend to present the infamous error ring of death.

Anything beyond (including) falcon should be good...ish. But if you choose for phat, prefer jasper.

The newer models are cooler, spend less energy (model e). I don't like them for not having component cables support for using with crt tv. They also has lesser usb ports (i have some wired controllers, and external hd).

I personaly like (and have one) RGH slim on trinity mobos. Boot times are perfectly fine to me like said, 6~20 seconds. If it breaks, any technician will know how to fix.

kinect are plug and play on slim and E models, but not on phat models.

Every couple years change thermal paste, clean the fans and you should be fine, on any model you choose.

I count the first glitch as instaboot but it still takes around 6 seconds for the ROL to light up which is the time I measure when testing timing files.

Why is changing the paste mandatory? I have a Falcon which I RGH1-ed and it is still alive.

Because it's cheap crap, and the console is close to 20, you don't want any rrod now, and don't use x-clamp fixes

Hy610 thermal paste works great for this purpose, I never go above 68-70c, phat and that's after playing GTA sa, mw2, etc, also keep the fans speed set higher (min speed) in fsd or dash launch, also reversing the fan so it blows into the case instead of sucking it in and out the back, has a big improvement (phats) , also remove the DVD drive if you don't plan to use it or just connect it externally

With instaboot, rol should light up within 3-5sec after powering

I've replaced the thermal paste on my system maybe twice, since I don't play it that often. the temps are good for a falcon. while idle it's between 50-55C for both cpu and gpu. it runs cooler than my ps3, and both are using temp thresholds.

Idle temps between 45-50 on slims, 50-55 on phats is normal, load temps is what you should be worried about

My temp threshold is 60, but it never gets that high. It's 68 on my slim ps3. The temp on that while idle is about 65, which I think is normal as well.

The PS3 iirc has hotspot issues where parts of the mobo don't get adequate cooling, and heat builds up

The 360 issues are mainly due to improper form factor

I haven't opened a ps3. I think the cell can endure heat more than the 360's cpu though, but the rsx and 360 gpu are about the same heat wise, since the rsx is just off the shelf. Sony thought the cell could do the gpu too, but when it didn't work, they just threw in some random gpu.

I meant more as uneven heating/cooling of the mobo, this can cause stress and flexing

I'm just starting to use my xbox360 with the xk3y again. I have about 30 games on an external HDD. Wanna get the kinect up and running again and try and do some excersize hehe. It's surprising so much hardware is going for cheap nowadays. I value this thing even though majority of the time I'm playing warzone on the pc. I think the 360 can still be a lot of fun.

on ps3 phats (with b/c) the fan and heatsink are effectively one piece, thats most of its weight
