Microsoft adds new Series X|S theme that mimics the look of the original Xbox

Want to make your 2020 console look a little more 2000s? Just add this new theme that Microsoft has released for Xbox Series X|S consoles. Right now, as part of the May firmware update for the Series X|S, a free theme has been added to make your dashboard have the old-school original Xbox startup blob in the background, in celebration of the system turning 20 years old. To change your theme, you'll need to head to Settings > General > Personalization > My background > Dynamic background. Beyond the fun cosmetic change, the update also improves how the Quick Resume feature works, showing you which of your games is suspended, and giving the function an overall speedup. Why not match your new theme by playing an original Xbox game through backwards compatibility?

Cool, sony had done something like that a while ago

Now all that remains is for Nintendo to do the same, but apparently the Switch will not have themes anytime soon.

No, actually this is a third-party theme, Truant Pixel had to do it themselves because Sony has no respect for their back-catalog

Why bother? With all those boxes that the UI has all over the damn place, you'll barely be able to fucking see anything.

The Blades UI was the best. Had everything in neat categories, was colorful, and most importantly of all: it didn't have advertisements.

what a complete waste of time, money, and resources.

it's Microsoft's time and Money , so the problem is ? and what resources ? not like it took extra metals or anything to make a small little theme........ people make switch themes that cost nothing to make LOL....

had a look through your comments that you've posted
have you ever had a positive opinion in the last five years that you felt like sharing with the class?
Surely you must have more to your life than looking at my comment history? They're called opinions. Just like bungholes, everyone's got one and yours always stinks.

Bring back the 360 Blades UI you cowards! I still wouldn't buy a Series X/S, but do it anyway.
cope
original xbox ui is far superior
even if blades was the best 360 ui it was still a downgrade from the original xbox ui

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

what a complete waste of time, money, and resources.
themes are nessacary to make your console more personalized. it's not a waste

Blades Dashboard?
I had a 360, but I never saw this menu. It looks... very useful, actually.
I could definitely do without that 2005 look on the sides, though. It doesn't need a makeover, so much as a fresh coat of paint.

Keep the curves, change the angles on the tab-like bits, change the font, maybe curve the text to match what it's on. Change the colors to look just a little sharper, but don't overdo it. Keep the shadows, keep the sound effects.
The animation looks quite nice, but I wonder if making the menu contents not disappear during transitions would look better.

I hope they bring back the Blades as well, damn that was a good UI

The Blades will forever be the best Xbox UI in terms of functionality and speed. No pointless gimmicks, easy to maneuver and very responsive. Unlike the dashboards to follow that were overly flashy and looked like they never left the concept stage.

The dream for me would be for a Retroarch blades UI, with each blade a RA Core Playlist :P
Yea, the blades 360 UI was MS before they got all ad happy. It was sleek nippy and clutter free :)

I took a couple of minutes out of my day to research your body of work before saying something against you. I do not consider this to be a waste of time. Contrarily, I think making an effort to understand people better is a good thing.

I must say, I'm more than a little disappointed that your insult game has not evolved beyond "bunghole" in so many years, though. Maybe talk like an adult next time you crawl out of whatever hole you've sprung from? You aren't 14 anymore.

Have a nice day.

Sony: Imma pretend I didn't see that.

But seriously, this is really great. Hopefully, the PS5 gets theme support later in its lifecycle. I loved the 25th anniversary theme as well as the PS2 legacy theme on PS4. Hopefully we get similar themes for the PS5.
