SNES-era classic Zombies Ate My Neighbors to be ported to modern consoles

Head back to the heyday of 16-bit gaming with the latest release from DotEmu, who are bringing back Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol. Both games are getting a release on modern systems, giving a new generation the chance to experience these classics. Released in 1993 and 1994 respectively, Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Ghoul Patrol will see the addition of a few new features, such as save states and a museum mode, with the latter of which including a small documentary about the development of both titles. Local co-op will also be making a return. You can grab both games when they release for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, or PC on June 29th, for the price point of $14.99.

I wonder why? The game isn't even very good, if I'm being honest. Cash grab?

I've
Always liked both the SNES and Megadrive originals of ZAMN, although I never spent much time with Ghoul Patrol... but it's in good hands with DotEmu.
Seen DotEmu's emulators all over Google Play, are they reputable like M3?

M2 are in a league on their own, imo - no one else comes close in terms of what they bring to their rereleases... but DotEmu are pretty good. Not sure I'd trust their Android content, but certainly better when it comes to things like their work on Streets of Rage 4 and the forthcoming TMNT game.

Such sweet memories, but i never managed to beat later levels.

BTW is this just a expensive emulator with ROM or a remake?

It's really shitty that this is its own release, while still just being emulated. We miss out on online co-op which we would have if they just put it on SNES online. So we're expected to pay for less features..

Meanwhile, PC players can use Parsec, Steam Remote Play Together, and have more options than paying customers do!

A matter of opinion, I guess. I loved this game, spent so many hours playing it on the Genesis with my brother. So, seeing it come back in a more official fashion is interesting. Granted, I do think it could be a quick cash grab. No online play, and we're not sure as to the quality of the port. For all we know it could be a quick and dirty emulator port. Ghoul Patrol? I honestly don't care for.

same for me. I never beat the game though. I do remember that giant toddler stage pretty vividly.

That fucking toddler scarred me.

I was going to buy it for my retron 3 hd, but the price is kinda high (like $40 just for the cartridge). I played the snes version, which is the version I was going to get, but sega has that unique sound which I love for a lot of classic games. I will be buying this version as a result. I don't own a hacked switch, but I kept my hackable one for one day possibly doing so. I also recently bought an rcm loader. it was relatively easy to get one even though Nintendo has banned them in the US. lol

ZAMN is great but ghoul patrol was a disaster. one of the baddest games you can ever hope to try and play. with some of the worst aiming mechanics possible!

ZAMN was pure hardcore and no fucking around. back than you had to go several levels before you got the password later on there was only ONE human to save each level. let that human die and that's it your fucked back to the last password save which i remember was every 4 levels. so fuck up once and that's it and no saves states back than either :P

Keep in mind, when you face the giant spider in the attic level, use the plates!

Seriously, the plates are secretly the best weapon in the game. There's also a hidden flamethrower in Revenge of Dr Tongue. Oh, and freezing enemies halves their life points.

Just a few tips from an old ZAMN veteran. Give this game a try, especially if you have a friend for two player mode. It is a ton of fun, even nowadays.

The less being said about Ghoul Patrol the better, though.

Oh man this is awesome I still play it from time to time on my emulators. So many good memories with me and my brother beating this merciless but funny game. Give them a go, if you haven't.

We were killing zombies before it was cool.
