Hi. I came to the ( on my opinion, ofc) best forum for cfw problem solution anwsers to ask you something, guys:
The thing is that I already owned a OLD 2DS, but i about to get a NEW 2DS XL and im struggling to decide what to do about the SD card as i have a 256 gb one on the OLD and i'd really like to use it on the NEW, but having all the games and savedata i had. I also have to say that my OLD has Luma with b9s and no emunand ( i believe, i dont really know either ). Is there a way to use my games on the NEW and dont lose anything?
Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to do this using checkpoint, which im more used to?
Or it is only possible to do it with jksv?
Either one will work. I know for JKSV you are required to have a save file in place in order to restore a backup, which is what BaamAlex was talking about. Launch your game, create a save file, then return to your save file manager to restore your save backup.

Okay, then if I create a backup, moving it to the NEW sd card and restoring it should do it? If so, which folder are checkpoint backups stored? Also thanks for helping me.

Why not just use a standard System Transfer? CFW does not prevent you from doing that. All you need to do is run faketik after doing the System Transfer to get back games that you installed via CIA. This is all well-documented.

Of course you should definitely be backing up your save games anyway.

Also, can you honestly say that you regularly play every single thing you've installed on that 256 GB card?

Also, it's JKSM, not JKSV. And Checkpoint is generally superior.

Dont really know if that would be possible with only 1 SD really. But yeah, ill be backing up all the savedata. I still have games to play, so theres work thats saved by just deleting and reinstalling again.
But can anyone please tell me where Checkpoint backups are stored?

When you do a System Transfer, you ultimately take the SD out of the old console and put it in the new console. This is how it is described even in Nintendo's own documentation.

I still have games to play
If you have 256 GB of games, I expect it is much more likely that you will move on to something else before you even touch a fraction of them.

Have you considered consulting the documentation?

First of all, I dont own 256gb of games, i just use a 256gb card. Then again, if it is the case and only 1 SD is really involved, system transfer might be the solution, with a NAND backup stored first. Also, will take a look to that documentation. Many thanks. Cant really test the system transfer as my N3DSXL hasnt arrived yet, but i will be backing the savedata for now.

hey sorry for bumping this old thread , but i’m trying to see if it’s possible to do a standard pc-based system transfer from a N2DSXL to a N3DSXL with a single sd card. since cards are supposed to be locked to their systems i gather you’d normally need a new card for the new system card but i figure i could just reformat the card then paste all the stuff back into it afterwards? is this nonsense? i am a noob so apologies if so.

any help at all is appreciated.

the sd card is encrypted per that console you are using. You would have to use the consoles system transfer to send the encryption keys to the new console for the sd card to be read from it. Just sending it without it wont let the console read the conetents.

so but it seems like doing nintendo’s standard system transfer would take care of that right? are you saying i couldn’t do the pc-based transfer and would have to keep it between the two consoles?

You have to use the system transfer from the system settings. to move the contents from the N2ds to the N3ds

wait wait wait so that’s it? don’t need another sd on the new system? just do a transfer to the new system with no card in it, then throw the source card into the target system, then use faketik to get the non-legit stuff up and running? it’s that easy? isn’t there options in the official nintendo system transfer to use a pc or just use wifi? and yr saying don’t use the pc option?

sorry, feeling super dumb but i just have to confirm that this is all i gotta do.
