Semiconductor shortage may impact Switch production goals, says Nintendo president

Nintendo is considering the possibility that it may not be able to meet its projected sales goal of Nintendo Switch systems this year. This isn't due to a lack of consumer interest, but rather the possible inability to produce enough Switch consoles because of the worldwide lack of semiconductors. During a press conference, Nintendo of Japan's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, stated that the company is doing everything it can, but there's rising uncertainty regarding their fiscal year plans being able to be met while the shortage is still ongoing. The projected shipment of 25.50 million units before March 2022 is still on track, but Furukawa implied Nintendo may have to revise those numbers if they run into issues sourcing the parts.

Last year, Nintendo sold a total of 28.83 million Switch systems, with Furukawa crediting the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic for most of those sales. In 2019, it had been predicted that Nintendo would sell around 19.5 million units, which turned out to be greatly surpassed. Even so, Furukawa says that 25.50 million is a high number compared to previous years, especially with the Switch having hit its fourth anniversary just recently.

I did not realize semiconductors were made outside of China. Where I work, that's where ours come from.

And no, this Covid has a HUGE survival rate, it mostly just takes the lives of those who already have sever medical conditions or are over weight, had diet, no sun, etc.

More have died by choices made in reaction to Covid than of Covid 19 itself.

And yes, all countries need to stop the slave driving, but China and N. Korea are obviously the worst.
I don't know if you are joking or serious now, anyway, if it was a joke, sorry, language barrier kept me from understanding. If it was not, I just want to clarify that I do not told anything about how deadly the virus is, but I just said that people staying inside (regardless the reason) created a unpredictable demand for electronics, that was my point.

My opinion on the disease itself has nothing to do with this topic, but it is kinda different from yours.

China has Semiconductor Production capabilities, but those are deemed not the highest quality and some argue a few Generations behind, so where they end up are not on Flagship devices.

China is the World's Assembly Line so despite not creating large quantities of Semiconductors and not the highest tier, they are the go-to place for said Semiconductors to get Assembled into Boards. Logically, this does impact Supply.

That said, Taiwan is the one of the few World Leaders in Semiconductor Production and the word is that drought has severely impacted their Water supply, needed to create Semiconductors.

This is probably one of the biggest reasons for current shortage.

I don't know if this is the reason, but when I was trying to preorder the 3D World Switch on Best Buy back in February, virtually all switches were sold out. well, all except for the ones that came with those Switch-themed micro-SD cards.

Nobody wants to make more factories to end this fake shortage. Kinda pissing me off too.

They are making factories right now. But it's takes time. Everyone is trying to get their hands on these chips.

The car industry is affected too. Lots of cars on lots that can't be sold because they have no computers in them. GM and Ford had to shut down several plants due to chip shortage.

Lots of major industries are fighting for these computer parts. Almost everything has computers in them nowadays. So it's all spread so thin.

No worries and you are correct sir!
