I know this isn't helping, but Operation Decoded *might* pick this up after they're done with Lost Evolution
That's an incredibly rude and insensitive response, honestly, with a touch of entitlement. Yes, there were health issues and stuff, but there was a team here that tried working on Lost Evolution before that team took over and it took a while. Translating a game, on free time, takes a very long time, not to mention 2 games at the same time. They weren't "hanging on to it" as you say, they were preoccupied with life. All the work that goes into these fan translations, any of them, is done entirely on spare time that folks don't necessarily have all the time. Especially not when there are health issues getting in the way. Not to mention LE is coming this year. If they take on Super Xros Wars that would likely be their sole focus now that Re: Digitize Decode is done and LE would be done too.
10 years? Operation Decoded's only had LE for 4 years. And it's coming out this year. That's pretty good, especially considering that all their progress on it was done while also working on ReDigitize Decode.
Exactly this. Also as someone who was ON Yugix's team helping out a bit we couldn't have even offered much even if they wanted to use it. We basically had to restart from scratch due to people using Google Translate on our spreadsheet and ruining the quality of the translations cause they were so impatient. After that we privated the spreadsheet and didn't really make much more progress until we handed it off to Decoded. As such, it's best to consider the project started when they took it initially and stop counting it as being started back in 2012. Counting progress on the translation since then is like saying Metroid Dread took 16 years because it was started back in 2005 when in reality the final version was likely only worked on for 2-3 years. It's disingenuous to count it since the start and discounts all the work done since the project restarted because you're putting it on an incorrect timeline with the express purpose of complaining about how long it's taking.Operation Decoded—or at least Romsstar—has no intention to take on Xros Wars. Not sure about our Lost Evolution translator, I guess that's up to the future.
That being said, my last information (from a year ago) was that at least KHeartz still considers it a project of his (although on hiatus).
As for the Lost Evolution stuff happening here... LE is and always has been a side project. The initial idea was that working on Decode was hindered by the lack of a working emulator. It didn't help LE that Citra progressed faster than expected, putting our focus on that instead (and heck, even that took a lot longer than I initially expected).
The thing you have to understand: we're not Bandai. We have high quality standards for our localizations. Just because someone else worked for years on the same game doesn't mean that we can just use what they did so far. It also means that we don't give our work to just anybody to "finish it" but only people we believe have the necessary skills to actually live up to that standard—and these people exist and are working on the game right now.
Keep in mind: we're not getting paid for it, it isn't a fulltime job and we owe nobody. If it were about maximizing personal profit I can guarantee you we'd be working on something else.
Also, there is a fucking pandemic going on.
If being entitled was an Olympic sport, you'd be in the running for gold. Or not, since the whole thing might be cancelled. The fact that it had to be done from scratch factors into it of course, but it doesn't change anything on the time it is worked on. It's not disingenuous and doesn't discount anything. It's honestly just the net time worked on. The gross time still counts from 2012. And only because you don't like this fact it doesn't mean you can dismiss it.
I am also not complaining about that it takes so long, I just hate why it takes so long.
Of course noone working on this owes anybody. But saying things like "We don't get paid, we have a life" etc is just being an asshole about the whole deal imo. I also worked on many translation projects when I was younger and I always felt like I at least need to work on it exactly because I did not only for myself. It's a balance thing really. Some people just have higher priorities than "me me me" I guess. But that just goes hand in Hand with the way our society of social media and hyper egoism goes.
But yeah. There is a pandemic going on, so it's hard to sit at home, doing stuff that's not important, right?
