In recent months I went back to games I hadn´t finished (sometimes decades ago!) It is really fun. However, I am not sure whether I will really finish Monster Hunter Tri (Wii) and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Wii). The former because playing it alone feels rather boring (have not played much, however) and the latter because I got stuck and may not progress without a second player (opening a door requires the input of two players... it seems).

@Tom Bombadildo: For a longer dungeon experience you could play the four divine beasts or play many shrines in a row (by just teleporting there; of course they are not interconnected though).

And now that I hacked my 3DS and have Bravely Second (you can connect the dots between those two- come on, I needed something to do during the quarantine), I probably won't return to it. I may cheese through it with cheats soon, but I sure as hell am not playing through the latter chapters legitimately.
Yeah, I had to give up on my first playthrough because I had a strategy that cheesed out every main boss on repeat worlds, so I was underleveled for the fight on the grandship at the end; My only place to level was IN the grandship and I determined I'd have more fun starting over than doing that. Wonderful game though. The ending is amazing

yeah I literally just used sage staves (the things that cast raise when used as an item), gave them to everyone and did all my grinding in the area with nothing but undead. everything else I fought legit except the fourth crystal boss. that son of a ***** I just OHKO'd by using a megalixir in bravely second.

Xenoblade X - the story at least (stopped at chapter 8 or something out of 12), because 1- who cares 2- couldn't bother grinding and stuff; you can bet, though, that I flew everywhere and maxed out the mechanical/biological/etc skill levels :)

Everybody's Golf 5 and 6 - more repetitive than the PSP releases and nobody™ wants to sit in front of a TV

The new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - well, I did defeat the """final""" boss and accumulate a lot of team points (as above, heh?) but I can't be bothered to do much else (curiously I went far more ahead on the GBA version I bought about 7 years ago and don't really remember playing, which in turn was a good number of years after I played it on the DS)

Pokemon Moon - dishonorable mention for having installed the leak (over 1 week before launch), deleting it permanently after 30 minutes of ongoing forced tutorial, and proclaiming the mainline series completely dead and Gamefreak totally sold out

I have 30 years of unfinished game backlog.
since I'm 10, I tried lot of games, either I bought, pirated (long ago I used to, not even counting emulators!), or were lent to me from a friend and I had to give back before completing.
Like Tom Bombadildo, I could write a full book :P

And there are so much I still want to "try", even just the beginning, not necessarily "complete", just to know more games and make my own idea of all existing games. Sometime I see people talking about a game or a sequel, and I wish I knew the game too.

I tried to list the games I remember ever playing on backloggery.com, and I currently have more than 500 games I didn't complete (but 227 completed!). not counting the one I forgot, such as a lot of amiga games or from weird machines I didn't even know the name and still wish to remember or try again.
edit: not counting homebrew I tried either

Though, I have a tendency of playing games up to the end, but never completing them :(
FF8 (last boss, I skipped all other battles since the beginning... because it was an option... haha, I can't beat last boss without Lv or Exp)
Zelda Wind waker (last boss not even tried, I want to complete and find everything...and lost interest))
Zelda Breath of the Wild (last boss not even tried, I want to complete and find everything... I did all the quests, then bought DLC and lost interest)
Star Ocean 2 (last dungeon, I had other games to play and forgot about that one)
Star Ocean 3 (last dungeon, difficulty rocketed and is impossible to advance in the story without dying in one hit)
All castlevania game before SotN, because of game's difficulty
etc.
that's just few examples, I have tens like that.
Sometime it's only because of game difficulty (old games you had numbered lives, or continues) and often lost all lives/continues on last level... so frustrating! (shoot'em up, plateformer, etc.)
of course there are also a lot I just lost interest, or didn't had time because games I want are released too fast. or either I'm too slow to play. (death stranding: I'm still chapter 3 after 6 month and 80H, when some people completed the story in 30H...)

I have started a few times but never got very far in Super Mario RPG. When it first came out on the SNES it never got released here in Scotland or the rest of Europe for that fact. As time went by I kinda forgot about it and never got round to playing it on emulators. It was only when I got my SNES Classic that I played it for the first time and discovered it hadn't aged very well and felt very slow and cumbersome to play. Since then I have tried it a few times and just can't get into the game which is wierd as I am a huge fan of all the other Square JRPGs on the SNES.

Days Gone, I was fairly excited, but annoyed with the delays, when it came out I did have fun with it, but the "missions" were repetitive and got boring fast. Some were fun though, but most were just drive to x and deliver to y (And the driving and the bike felt like shit to me) And that felt exhausting quickly..
Hoping to pick it up again someday later though.

Besides that, the only games "I" haven't finished are the ones I'm playing w/ my sister, The Division 2 / Far Cry New Dawn and A Way Out hoping to get them done after the Covid-19 shit

So, I could start a list of games Ive started but not finished, but you would start reading the list, then stop as well.

The most recent examples are probably: "Wolfenstein - The Old blood". I started the game because it was included in gamepass, but that ran out and I didn't feel like purchasing the game for 20€ to finish it.

Another one would be "Heavy Rain" - i started the game after finishing the brilliant "Detroit - become human", but I didn't enjoy playing the first chapter at all (controls are horrible, action choices seem weird) and so I never really went back to it.

Super Mario RPG
Oh yeah, that one (emulated inaccurately) too - I think I stopped soon after the room you can play as SMB1 Mario

Almost every arcade game except OutRun 2, Smashing Drive, and Radikal Bikers (my car insurance company is not allowed to read this post!)

Telefang 1 aka Pokemon Diamond for GBC - I actually sold a few CDs of it in elementary school :D but got stuck at the part where you have to touch the 8 houses in the correct order; went farther 2 years ago (finished the giant tree - as documented in the edit history of the walkthrough on Wikifang) but it's grind-or-cheat-fest territory now

Hot Wheels Turbo Racing (PS1 version) - the championship mode has three "seasons" and the last one is extremely brutal, older Mario Karts 150 mirror style; on top of that one track (luckily one never required to beat all championships or unlock all cars) simply crashes the European version...

Harry Potter 2 for the PS1 - As a kid I wasn't good enough to get past 60% or so; as a teen I had to stop due to a scratched disc; 3 years ago I finished it (with savestates) on an inaccurate emulator, but since it obviously wasn't a legal backup of my disc, can I be said in good faith to "have finished my game"?

Oh, right, "my game" - I never finished (in both meanings of the word) my summer 2007 Mario World hack and no backups are known to exist...

What's the reason you didn't finish those games?
Prince Of Persia because it's hard.
Vexx because i don't have this game anymore.
Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario because those games were in english and since i meet them with 6 years old until 9 or 10, i couldn't not understand a single word of the dialogue of them and also some battles were really hard for me at the time.
Paper Mario: The Sticker Star because i focused in my other games of the platform it was developed for and forgot it.
The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds the same reason as Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Link's Awakening because i lost or someone stole my old 3ds.
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga because the barrel puzzle, that i guessed hard as hell at the time and dropped it and with time, i forgot to play it.
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time because the last battle is hard as hell and until now i have difficulty in finishing it.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team the same reason as Paper Mario: Sticker Star
GTA series because they are very big and at the time i was lazy to finish them
Zach and Cody for DS the same reason as Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Wario Land the same reason as Link's Awakening
Wario Master Of Disguise because i guessed at the time it was too confusing
Yoshi's Land DS and Sonic series the same reason as Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Infamous 2, God Of War 3, Red Dead Redemption, Red Dead Redemption 2, Dead Rising 2 and Assassin's Creed 3 the same reason as the GTA series.

Wait... Video Games end somewhere?

:P

Seriously : I hardly ever finish games. Then again, most of my games are sort of endless or one shots (think tetris and digital board games as examples).

Still... A few notorious examples :
-Outland. A metroidvania adventure that goes all ikaruga during the game. Pretty damn good. But I just got fed up fighting the (probable) final boss
-final fantasy 8 : I've talked about this one. There's this stupid card game I presume was optional. Somewhere near the end, all your powers get stolen, and facing the boss means dying just about instantly. Turns out you should have boosted card skill by then.
(then again : I was fed up with the convoluted plot diarrhea anyway, so it's not just that)
-Ut2004. Okay, I finished this one three or four years after release and playing it daily. It was mostly a statement, as the final level is just retardedly stupid (not even hard... Just too much of an anticlimax)

I just can't never drive myself to finish Earthbound and I've lost my -halfway through- savedata for Darksouls twice now.
Both cases are a shame because I appreciate many aspects of both games and want to play Mother 3 and the rest of the soulborne games but I keep trying to beat these first and I just loop lol
