Sources claim that Discord has rejected Microsoft's buyout offer

Whispers throughout the industry have been pointing towards a possible buyout of the popular text and voice chat program Discord. Considered as a modern Skype for gamers, the app was valued at $7 billion dollars, and for the past week, its creators have been in talks with Microsoft about a possible acquisition. Microsoft reportedly offered $10 billion dollars, but it appears that Hammer and Chisel--the startup company behind Discord--have chosen to decline the buyout, and will continue on independently. According to insiders, there were other companies interested in buying Discord besides just Microsoft--supposedly Amazon and Epic Games--but those bids have also been turned down.

For now, it appears that Discord, which has around 140 million users monthly, may go public with an IPO, as they've hired a financial chief to assist with their future plans. Meanwhile, Microsoft could be eyeing up yet another purchase in the form of Square Enix. Nothing is concrete, but the Japanese company is rumored to be looking for possible buyers.

If Microsoft buys Square Enix... I'll be grabbing the popcorn and watch PlayStation users throw tantrums.
I game on PC and Switch. I wouldn't like to see Microsoft buy Square or Sega. I didn't even like when they bought out Bethesda. I don't like seeing a 3rd party company become a first party. I prefer 3rd parties stay 3rd party.

Tbh i didn't even know msn messenger 1 existed
I'm still rocking my Hotmail email! I just wish Microsoft would fix their spam protection, as I get a shit ton of phishing emails.

tbh...I have no hope anymore if they buy squarenix...it's bad enough them buying bathesda but having jrpgs be exlusive to the xbox...the machine that may as well not exist in japan...feels like a death sentence. now yes, they do have other series besides the usual final fantasy and dragon quest but rpgs kind of seem to be there bread and butter

I don't even know what the fuck either of those are
ICQ,IRC and AOL are forgotten software. If i choose some old forgotten sofware chat i would prefer icq. In the era of messenger vs chat software the fastest to login was icq. ICQ its similar to nintendo 3DS code friend, each profile have numbers in your profile and you can share that number with your friend to add it in their list chat
.The diference beetwen the 3ds code systen was superfast to load your login credentials, send paint pictures and put your avatar. Actually only ICQ exist in the memories of the old people like me xD.

God.. ICQ. I remember my original account had a really low number. That meant that I was one of the first people on the service. I can't even remember the last time I used it, but it looks like it's still around.

Anyways, if anyone should buy Discord it's Nintendo, since they basically are incapable of figuring out this chat thing on their own. I hope they don't, because they'd just fuck it up, but...

At least Microsoft has something that kind of functions in game. So does Sony, at least the last time I used it.

Personally if a company had to acquire Discord I’d much rather prefer it being Microsoft and not some other company like Tencent or Amazon, MS did a pretty good job at managing Minecraft for example, now imagine the same thing but if Tencent had bought Minecraft instead...

If Microsoft gets to buy it, we can hopefully expect the features we always requested. Like end-to-end encrypted chats for example.

To be fair, Microsoft buying Square Enix would be an incredibly clever way to open door to the Japanese market. An exclusive Dragon Quest for the system, the father of JRPG's would probably push the Japanese into buying an Xbox (DQ XI sold roughly 2mil on release week alone, mostly for the 3DS). Then there's also FF which also sells pretty well (although not as much as a normal DQ, it's pretty close).

Then there's also the fact that Nintendo and Microsoft have had several partnerships to the date, even releasing some of their original IP's on Nintendo systems. Some microsft games also have working Xbox Live on the switch.

So yeah, those JRPG together with the constant Nintendo partnership, they could enter the market.

Regarding Discord, I'm pretty surprised they managed to reject it, but pretty pleased with it. Good old modern day mIRC.
