Sony decides to keep PS3 and Vita PlayStation Store access alive instead of shutting it down

Urrrrntitled.png

Sony will no longer be killing off support for the PlayStation Store on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Last month saw the official announcement that both systems would no longer be able to purchase new digital games or access the PlayStation Store, but that decision has been walked back. This is because Sony saw the passionate outcry of fans upset about the closure, and so the PS3 and Vita will be able to work as they have been. However, the PSP's access will still be going offline as previously planned, on July 2nd.

When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.

You cant play physical games either if the CMOS battery dies
I dont think people understand what a physical disk actually is sometimes lol. It doesnt have magic powers, it works almost exactly like a downloaded game except that the license is attached to the disk itself.

Which they absolutely won't do. They claimed the PS5 was gonna have strong backwards compatibility, but then they only supported PS4 and not even all titles. Modern Sony is full of crap and they always will be.
Indeed it does look like it wont happen with how contradictory Sony have always been. Sad really as they have a great legacy of games that should be preserved

This, or make SoCs inside an enclosure that connects via USB 3.0, and emulate the PS1/PS2 and PS3 via those. The SoCs could interact with the PS5's OS and allow the disc drive to read PS3 Blu-Rays as well as CDs and DVDs, if the PS5's disc drive can even read those in the first place.

After all, Sony did make the Memory Card adapter that works with both PS1 and PS2 Memory Cards, so why not SoCs for the entire systems that they can't be bothered writing code to emulate?

If you make a soc, and release it as a standalone unit, why even use a ps5, you might aswell just build a portable, or something akin to an Android TV box

You know how expensive that would be, PS2 and ps1 combined soc is possible, you aren't putting a PS3/x360 mobo in a single chip, not for at least another 5 years

Because him, like many others don't understand that the disc is just a license that can be revoked at almost any time anyways.

I Own the files, on a physical medium, if its single player I can still play it, I can dump it, and resell it, this is what digital people don't get

I like my games handed to me on a physical "platter", not a url

But you don't... At any time a blacklist could be sent out to turn that disc into a coaster.

makes no sense unless there begging for another lawsuit like OtherOS (which they lost) thats probably why they backtracked cause some lawyer would have the balls to stand up to them and since they lost the last one sony got spooked

All they can really do is revoke the crypto license, but only Sony or m$ can do that, this won't happen, would only keep it from booting

I still own the files, I can dump them and still play them on cfw, the disc are pressed/stamped in a factory, there's no writing or modifying the data once its on there it's read only, only by stamping a new disc, with updated data, which means you'd also have to buy the new copy, this is how patches were actually done up to the 360 and PS3

All they can do is ban or suspend the PSN account associated with the infraction... not the specific game.
Piracy aside you'll still need a PSN account and an activated PS3 to download PSN games and Disc patches.
Again that part did not change with the store shutting down.... everyone's PS3 game libs were still available.
OtherOS was a moot argument since piracy was coming with or without the 3.41 recovery dongle.
The whole PS3 battery thing is unnecessary FUD and not planned obsolesces.

Either way I bet they made quite abit from that from people rushing to the stores to buy what they can before they closed.

Yeah the online services for each were never going to close, just the stores.

I piled about$ 250 into my cart waiting for a last minute sale haha
