I dislike trophments as a concept and would have them removed entirely were I put in charge of a platform with them. They are bad game design, have serious downsides and I would say are a net detraction from gaming as a whole. To each their own as far as finding their own fun in games but I don't rank them so much higher than intentional griefing in online games*.

*even then some of that is probably more funny watching it in videos later.

If some game dev wants to implement a system where they try to encourage different types of play (borderlands had nice challenges for instance) via in game rewards then that would be something like trophments done right.

I don't just play for trophies, but I like the trophy system, it is often something that greatly increases the replay factor of a game for me.

For example, I had already played Rayman Legends on Wii U, I had no reason to replay it, but I bought it on PS4 just to platinum it, it gives a good satisfaction to see the 100% there on your profile and show it to the your friends, I love it, to be honest I miss it a lot on Nintendo consoles.

It's one of the reasons that I rarely do 100% on any Nintendo game.

I had never cared about trophies until recently. I bought a super slim 12GB ps3 to play legitimately, for trophies. I had major problems with the ps store though, so I returned everything.

I kinda wish the switch had some sort of achievement system. there are a lot of people who like them, and I think they'd probably sell even more systems/games if they did. however, I read Miyamoto doesn't like them, and that that is why they don't exist with Nintendo, which I think is stupid.

in general, I like trophies and achievements. Sometimes it's really satisfactory to see the platinum or 100% next to the game.

Depending on the trophy or achievement, I might sometimes replay a game to "hunt" them (i.e. do the specific task for that trophy or achievement) but I will not bother with outright ridiculous trophies that might require massive grinding or something.

Sometimes games reward you with additional achivements for playing/finishing a game on a higher difficulty in which case I might go for another run in a higher difficulty, but if that turns out to be too frustrating I'll just stop.

I'd probably do the same. I kinda have OCD though, so it sucks when you have these random percentages next to various games. I actually have 0 trophies on the playstation systems, because my account was banned, and I never really got back into playing them. I now have a new account on all systems, managed to salvage all saves on the vita, ps3, and ps4, but I lost all trophies in the process. not a big deal really, I guess. I didn't have many to begin with.

I would wager a considerable amount of money that such a system would not even move the needle (see also boycotts vs reality, left4dead being my favourite) in sales of either games or systems. At best you get a few trophment hunters keeping the price of some random kids game that just did the bare minimum (and consequentially able to be maxxed in a couple of hours) as it is a requirement to be on a system a bit higher than if nobody at all cared about it.

There are also downsides to having them, beyond having to have your developers have another pointless task on the checklist to join the needs to cater to the variously blind and hard of sight and whatever else is foisted upon them these days (various companies impose limitations on what can and can't be done, what boot times need to be, even what other systems might be like -- MS quite famously did not want to be the home of second rate ports). That being see what effect it had on cheats (some might be them realising they can sell them as DLC though), various bonus challenges, level design at times...

Personally I don't like trophies. I play games to relax and have fun, instead of completing a list of tasks to get a trophy. TBH most platinum trophies either require you to spend countless hours in game to do a long list of tasks, or do something nearly impossible to figure out by yourself. Besides you can't do anything with those trophies other than flexing on your friends. I find it hilarious that some people even buy those platinum trophy services to get platinum trophies. So yes I hate trophies, especially when developers make them extremely hard to get to force you play the game again but the game by itself has no replay value.

I just care about all secret and ending on the game.
About trophies, it's not impact to the gameplay, so i rarely care about it.

I'm really not sure what the goal is to collect trophies. You invest a lot of time to collect them all. Making trophies quickly and otherwise almost impossible.
What happens when you have collected all of them for a game? actually nothing, nobody or only a few cares about your trophies. The only thing I like about these trophies is that they show you what interesting content a game can offer. Trophies are just a guide to what the game has to offer. It would be interesting if you have collected all trophies in order to get something from Sony, for example a game or access to anything else.

Sony does something like that ocassionaly. They have community events in which they ask the participating players to earn a set number of trophies during a time period (9 million trophies in 7 days for example) and if the goal is met, you get a new theme for your PS4 (but not your PS5, you peasant!) and a handful of new avatars - as long as you participated.

Paging magstaff trophy addict @Ericzander

Personally I don't have a PlayStation, but I'm a fan of Trophies and Achievements as a whole. It's created a whole new ecosystem in my gaming, and exposed me to some games I may not have otherwise played because "it's an easy 100%," as well as giving me some extra mileage in games I may not keep playing otherwise. It's not a deal breaker if a game or platform doesn't have achievements, but it's for sure a cool feature that I take advantage of whenever I can.

If I'm being honest I play games to be a completionist. It's quite common I buy a game on PSN just to complete it. The extreme satisfaction of seeing a platinum trophy appear is just worth it all.
I pre-ordered Super Monkey Ball on PS4 over the Switch because I knew I would want that sweet, sweet platinum.
