There's a new system update for the Wii U for version 5.5.5U

Are you ready for a system software update? No, not for the Nintendo Switch, but the Wii U! It's been quite a while since we've seen one of these--the last update was issued in September of 2018, in fact. A brand new firmware update is available for the console, bringing it to version number 5.5.5. The official changelog is helpful as usual, giving us that magical sentence we can always expect from Nintendo. Keep an eye on this thread and hopefully we'll find out what exactly this update actually brings to the table.

Improvements to system stability and usability
  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

The ps3 is for accs keys, which is for bluray movies. I think wiiu is for ssl keys.
Oh right they do have to update those, don't they? I heard semi-recently a bunch of BluRay players became unusable because the manufacturers didn't update the security certificates and they got stuck in a boot loop on startup when trying to phone home.

WiiU and PS3 getting end of life updates gang

I don't know if it happens to you, but if I play Sonic & Sega Allstar Racing Transformed for a long time, it freezes. I have not yet tested if it keeps happening with this new update.

It is with the only game that happens, my WiiU is still virgin.

So, I suppose the question is whether this new system update breaks established stuff for the homebrew channel or launching games through it...?

I'll admit I didn't see anything pop up of whether this new update affected any necessary files.

Happy to see so much wiiu love here, my wiiu is getting more play time than my ps5. The wiiu was and still is the most underrated system, it never reached it's full potential. It just needed more support from developers outside of Nintendo. btw Black ops 2 still pretty active online and looks and plays amazing and this is coming from someone who played it on 360 from it's first release.

Kinda wish the Wii U got more homebrew game love, though... :(
Seems like most HB on the Wii U is just simple tools and not much else aside from a couple of homebrew games..
There has been a handful like the recent GTA3 one ... but you are right ... it is a bit lacking
