Nintendo Indie World Showcase - April 14, 2021 - roundup

Get ready for some brand new indies, with the latest Indie World Showcase. A live stream dedicated to purely independent-developed games is on the way, giving us an idea of what smaller-scale games we can expect on the Nintendo Switch in the near future. Hold onto your hats, because the event kicks off in 15 minutes, where we'll be covering it, as it airs.

Road 96 has you experience a road trip story with thousands of different outcomes and branching paths. Examples show change between taking a bus, taxi, or hitchhiking, each leading to different possibilities. Launches later this year.

Aerial Knights: Never Yield is a runner game. May 19th, with a demo later today. You'll parkour over urban obstacles.

Last Stop is a story-based game from Annapurna Interactive. July 2021.

Hindsight doesn't offer up much outside of a tease of a narrative-focused game. Releases later this year.

Skateboarding is the main draw to this next game. OlliOlli World is the latest game in the series. You can try to get the best combos, or just explore the world on your board. Winter 2021.

The Longing is a point and click style adventure game where you have to wait for time to pass. You'll need to pass 400 days worth of time, where time restricts you. Launches today.

There is no Game is another point and click game, that isn't a game. Called an experimental game, it launches today.

TMNT: Shredder's Revenge is coming to the Switch. It takes inspiration from older TMNT arcade games. Another game with no release date beyond sometime 2021.

Cris Tales is also headed to the Switch. It's a turn-based game where you manipulate time in battle and recruit varied teammates. July 20th.

GetsuFumaDen is a 2D roguelike. 2022.

Aztech: Forgotten Gods is a 3D cell-shaded action/adventure game. You'll be fighting Aztec gods and journeying to upgrade your tech gauntlet. Fall 2021.

Skul: The Hero Slayer is an action platformer inspired by other games in the genre. You play as the bad guy, who tries to take down the typical "good guys". It looks to be a beat-em-up kind of game. It has roguelike elements according to the developer. Sumer 2021.

It's time for a highlight reel of other titles they didn't have time to delve into. Art of Rally is an isometric driving game. KeyWe. Labyrinth City looks like a Where's Waldo book. Weaving Tides. The House of the Dead: Remake. Ender Lilies is a 2D bullet-hell looking game. Fez launches today.

There's going to be a sale on indie games today on the eShop.

That's it.

Or not, there's one last tease. Oxenfree II announced for release in 2021.

That's why I hate indies. All so caught up in defining themselves outside the norm and throwing adjectives at their creations that themselves are passed along as pretentious.
A game. Not a game. But experimental game.

But no game....

There was one game that I like most, the longing, and I'll play today, but on steam where it is way cheaper in my region ($4 on steam as opposed as $20 on eshop).

I liked other stuff too, but with release dates way ahead there is no reason to worry about them right now.

Overall I think it was a great presentation, I am sure that for many developers that was their biggest exposure they had yet, and that is good for gaming in general (I don't know if it helps Nintendo at all, but big companies don't need help to begin with).

That's why I hate mainstream games. All so caught up in defining themselves as inside the norm and throwing adjectives at their creations that themselves are passed along as pretentious. A game. "The best game." The same thing you've been doing over and over again with no chance of creativity anymore.

GetsuFumaDen was surprising and it's from Konami. Some background history. The first game came out for FamiCom which was back in 1987, and the main character only shows up as cameo in other Konami titles. There were no sequel to this game until now.

A lot of these look promising. IDK how House of the Dead is indie either, but I always liked the series. And Fez is another one of those well-regarded puzzlers I've been meaning to play for years, so glad it's on Switch.

Fez out of nowhere.... what a game that is if you haven't played it! Wonder what Phil 'Japanese games suck!' Fish is doing these days, probably still sat in the corner of a dark room in the fetal position crying 'They're calling me bad names!!11!'

TMNT looked fantastic, but I was already sold on that one... Quite a few others looked pretty good too, in a try before I'd buy kind of way for the most part (and despite me not really liking the first, I suppose I've got to grab Oxenfree 2 just to see where that leads, morbid curiosity kind of way) - personally, for an indie direct, I thought it was pretty good!
