The textures are definitely an upgrade when one takes a closer look, but as others already mentioned it's not a striking difference. At the few first comparisons I had to carefully scan the images to understand which one's supposed to look better.

Now Mass Effect can put you to sleep with its horrible story in 4k

exciting
This isn't the unpopular opinions thread :P

But seriously, I can only imagine the money that was poured into this and I can't for the life of me figure out why anyone thought it was worth it. It looks more like a PS3 to PS4 re-master in most scenes and in others it just looks a bit brighter. I think they could've released this a lot more cheaply and probably made more profit.

Well, on a small monitor, meh, but then viewed on my living room TV, the extra detail is there for sure. However it seems they're highlighting scenes they've brightened up compared to the original?! I mean a similar change worked wonders for the BR release of Buffy didn't it - oh wait...

Still, 4K and 60fps is enough to get me buying it regardless!

The first game is got improved quite good, i liked how the females look. But if they really censored the second game, then i'd, rather play the original.

I - uh. Geez. I honestly prefer the original. The lighting and color grading is more interesting and enhances the mood/atmosphere really well. The remake has more realistic lighting, but it just looks... flat and generic. At least they updated the character models and textures, that part looks better.

this, pretty much. Not everything can be made better by making it "more realistic". Mass Effect, especially 1 had an artists vision to it.

Maybe the best version will be the Legendary Edition with some mods to make it look like the original

I saw a lot of different textures, though I don't know if they're all improvements. They only thing that I noticed being 100% better were shadows, which isn't a surprise since UE3 had some weird way of rendering them. I'm not sure that's enough to justify a re-release (remaster, whatever).
