Gaming Sony is removing PS3 Updates for several games (and several regions)

Check your games, and check for updates. It appears that several game updates are being removed ahead of time. Even essential copies are being reverted to 1.0 patches.

I managed to get most of them, thanks to DeViL303 on psx place. there's not too many currently (about 13GBs, at least what I have):

That's great, but I imagine it would be hard for non-CFW people to archive updates seeing as how most of them don't exist anymore.

yeah, he linked to them, so I downloaded them right away. the xml for the updates no longer exists, which is why you can't find them anymore.

I'm just trying to make as much noise about this as possible. It's fucking absurd. Might as well backup my drive while I'm at it.

yeah, it sucks. I'm not sure if sony could get sued for dropping content altogether like ps store purchases. I don't know if those themselves will ever go offline considering. I have all of the pkgs from my ps3 backed up:

I even alphabetized everything with a few xmb mods, and these pkgs:

I named everything after content id, but I can get game name by right clicking the file and going to content id thanks to ps3 tools:

Awesome. I'll try and archive everything there just in case Sony decides to kick the bucket on the updates. I still think that they should stay up after the closure, though since most of them provide fixes to glitches and bugs.

They're not purposefully "removing" these, this is 100% likely a glitch in regards to removing purchase support later on this year. The list of games that have their updates being removed have absolutely nothing in common and are completely random, if Sony were going to up and decide to remove all updates on purpose they'd just...remove all updates, not a random select few for select regions.

Some people say with a custom DNS server, people would be able to download the patches without going to the CFW route.

I'm not exactly sure, but it has something to do with DNS and redirecting to the xml URLS of the database to be able to download/install as you would install a patch normally.
