Y'all need to read up on some history: https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/GBAtemp.net#History

"On 24 October 2002, the Invision Power Board forums and portal were officially opened"
Note that @KiVan registered one day before that.

Where in 2002 depends at which point you are celebrating the birth of, the website or the forums. Either way its 2002.

If I recall correctly I bought the original gbatemp.net domain in January 2003
Just checked & yep:

Before I got the domain it used to be gbatemp.2ya.com or something?

Archive.org seems to suggest it was gbatemp.m4d.sm - even after gbatemp.net was bought it redirected to there for a little while.

Of course this is all before my time I'm just going off things like https://web.archive.org/web/20021127050701/http://gbatemp.m4d.sm/ and https://web.archive.org/web/20030107101900/http://gbatemp.net/

I was a leech then (2002), didn't register. Maybe later when I did it was because I had to to see the links? Can't remember. I just bounced between here and another site (arcade at home dot youknow) after work every day, grabbing the latest rom releases. Good times.

if GBATemp forums were released on November 5th 2002, the OP registered one day after. Amazing!
Thanks for checking.

We registered the same day and the forums being registered only to drop the bandwidth a bit was the reason I joined that day after being content to be a lurker before then.

Interested to know what period saw the biggest uptick in new users, and did it equate to a particular system?
Personally, I'd been lurking/snatching since before the forums, but only joined due to the movement in the 3ds scene.

Activity does grow and shrink with the success and failure of systems covered, as well as hacked nature of them (if only backwards compatible then nobody cares, if easy softmod and the system has games then people care a lot).

That said you could probably get a reasonable graph by going through the wayback machine linked above and checking the indexes which usually noted total users and if not daily then current activity at that point.
Make another bar/delineation for major hacks being released and maybe then later polished up (things as they appear on say a C3 talk and then a few months later when reasonable/stable USB versions of those are made and installs reduced to "follow this guide")
