I bought second hand PS4 with sw 7.51, console was faulty and had several issues (BLOD):
- HDMI port damaged
- HDMI chip dead
- bad harddisk
- one of the chips with 7 and 8 legs near HDMI chip dead, replaced them from donor board (5v to HDMI)

After getting picture I had same error: CE-30391-6 that was showing up after launching games or apps from console
Date and time was drifting for few minutes after the console was powered off, power cord removed, and then powered on without power cord (to discharge capacitors and that battery takes over supplying chip with voltage).
After normal power on, time drifted for several minutes.

Console was connected to internet, but clock needed manual set-up.
Alternativly, internet clock updated was requiring SW update to 8.03.

I did not go for update and I tried following:
1) changing 2032 battery several times (2.8V, 2.9V, 3.1V) - measured on diode output
2) recovery update from 7.51 to 7.55
3) changing harddisk
4) initialising console 10 times (deleting all content on harddisk)
5) replacement of 2 xtals from donor board - first the thin long one and then the square one (25MHz?). Note: I used hot air to remove and fit xtals.

I noticed that Voltage output of battery was oscillating on diode (next to the battery) for few millivolts - it was constantly changing altough console did not have power (from high voltage 3.123 and then dropping to. 3.012). When I changed 25MHz square xtal voltage oscillation stoped. And I was convinced that this will solve the problem.
But unfortunately, nothing of above fixed the error. I concluded that next thing should be reflow of the CXD90042 chip (next to 2 black xtals).

I remembered that there was some stain arround CXD90042 chip and other near by chips I presumed that someone else tried to fix it by reflowing it
And then few hours ago I decided to update console to 8.03 SW before I go again for chip CXD90042 reflow.

After the update from 7.55 to 8.03 error disappeared and console now works :-)

Is this some kind of timebomb for consoles that were previously jailbraked (e.g. console was jailbraked on 7.xx sw, update to 8.xx fixed the problem).
Or there was a sw update of the chips that fixed the problem (e.g fix was in 7.55 SW that someone mentioned, although 7.55 did not fixed my problem)?

It is exactly as I wrote earlier, the problem is not the RTC (only in some cases the quartz may be damaged) The problem is software. Probably after you remove the batteries or it is damaged - discharged - the RTC is blocked and the console must be connected to the Internet at least once to synchronize the RTC with SONY servers and securely unlock the RTC. After that it works OK. To synchronize the time with the server you must be on the current software version.

The RTC chip is in SB - it is a custom IC with built-in RTC - date and time is not stored in SDRAM or in any other chip - it is only stored in the RTC.

About RTC please read in Wikipedia

Replacing the SB system does not give anything - I did it and mentioned it earlier in the post.

X-TAL Frequency for RTC is around 32,7kHz - it is long black thin.
DS1Z_QuickPrint1.png

The second large rectangular is a SMD generator and generates a clock for the SB which creates the remaining necessary clock signals for the system. It only works when the console is connected to the power supply.

This video only explains the situation with a damaged battery, we have the same error with a working battery.
Nope you didn't get the point. Even if you replace the damaged battery, the error will still show up because the connection with the PSN servers was reset. Even if you just disconnect the CMOS battery for few seconds, the ps4 will show up that error until you are on the newest firmware and connect atleast once to the PSN servers. Or just use ToDex if you have jb.

Yes you are right, maybe I made the wrong speech, but I wrote this earlier in post # 142 from my own deduction. I did not mention that you can run the console on a low software after replacing the battery. And I am referring to the latest software all the time so there was a misunderstanding. And you are right, for the console to work properly after replacing the battery, you need to be on the latest software and go online. But I noticed that this does not affect all consoles, always when reballing the APU, changing RAM and other work on heating the board, the battery is removed, and the RTC error does not pop up in all cases and the RTC itself works fine. So what it depends on, I do not know.

Regards to all.

I also have a problem with the date (1.1.1970) after the power cord is disconnected, it is a PRO console with a 7.02 system. After I set the date manually, JB and games works, some versions of mira and golden hen. If I do not touch the power cord, the date after setting works normally, although the system shuts down (KP).
Question, can resetting the date after unplugging the power cord disrupt saves in games?

After replacing my 2032 battery on a PS4 (CUH-1116A), I ran into the same issue. Would never have guessed that replacing a small battery could have such consequenses. VERY annoying. Since I am on 6.72 and update to 8.5 is currently no option for me, the exploit workarounds have to do the job. I found another way too: With Leeful 6.72 Menu v10, I loaded Exploit + HEN 2.13 (or 2.13b), then went to Settings --> Debug Settings --> System --> Debug Network Clock --> On, and set it to current date and time. After that, I could start any game normally. Without jailbreak, the method with logging out the current user just before the error (CE-30391-6) appears, and then logging back in and re-open the application worked fine for me too, but not sure if further errors would apper later on. I don't want to update my firmware so I can't say if it works after the update, but based on what other people say (thanks @MotherTeresa , great post), it surely would.

UPDATE:
I coulnd't resist to try and did the update to 8.50. It fixed the problem. So in my case it was really just the software issue that needs the PSN servers to connect to the PS4 for one time to reset/enable the CMOS functions. So, system clock works now, original games are playable and trophies can be seen. Sigh, hopefully there will be a jailbreak for this firmware in the future.

Hey there,
my PS4 gets quiet loud so I wanted to deep clean it and also add new thermal paste.
After reading the stuff here I thought it would be a good idea to change the Battery while I am at it.

FW is 5.05 so the Kernel clock payload should work, but I only read it resets time. So to what time is it actually set?
Like, does it just grab the System time or do you manually type in the time?

If you are on 5.05 you can use react ps plus payload and set kernel clock to any time you want.

Hello again

Because i'm new member i can't add download link to my posts, that's why I wrote two posts one below the other

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If anyone have ERROR CE-30391-6 and have 6.72 firmware in PS4 and don't want to update to the latest version and don't mind wrong time and date, use HEN version 2.1.3b.

Download 6.72 Leeful v8 from link to Dropbox: (uploaded by me):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/w84zze5hfbz944t/exploit6.72.zip?dl=0

Extract, go to folder name "exploit" and run exploit.bat.
In new terminal window You see HOST: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:80 x's is Your ip address to write in URL BAR on PS4 web browser (without :80 - this TCP port number default for http protocol, its mean not nessesary to write).
PS4 and PC/LAPTOP must be in the same network.

Tested on Win7 x64, used by me in my workshop.

Hi,

I found a PS4 with fw 7.55. This console was not working propertly (video glitches, random shutdown, sometimes blod) so I did a reflow and I have to remove the battery. After the reflow everything was working propertly BUT this error appeared!

So, as far as I know, in order to solve this, official way is update the console to the latest firm and login PSN. But I don't want to lose 7.55 advantages! Only way I found to temporary fix this, is launching GoldHEN, but we all know how unstable is launching the exploit, and that means I would have to launch the exploit ALWAYS even if it's a disk game.

Is there anything to do for permanent fix?

Not on 7.55, sadly. On 505 users can do the kernel clock method above but I haven't seen anything work on another FW where the problem is the kernel clock-battery. Only an update and PSN log-in will fix it.

use rest mode then, you don't have to run exploit every single time.

Hello again.

I found solution for this error - tested by me on two consoles - PS4 PRO CUH-7116 and PS4 SLIM CUH-2216. So what i did? I update firmware to 9.0 - and the error disappeared, can play games from BR Disc even though the time is still wrong (year 1970 - 1:00) - RTC is still blocked. Then i connect console to Internet and use SET CLOCK FROM INTERNET option (latest official FW is 9.50 right now - i have 9.0), and TADAM, all works fine, RTC unlocked. The hour and date does not change to default after restarting or turning off the console.

I think SONY listened to users and allowed the use of boxed games with a bad clock. SONY's earlier action was some kind of nonsense.

this is known. sony undid the rtc check when launching games on 9.00, but hen can do the same unless you're on some limbo firmware.

Honestly, I did not even check it and I did not know that it is already widely known that the 9.0 firmware disables RTC checking. I don't have time to play and play because I repair consoles and I didn't pay attention to it. I just got 2 consoles with a damaged SB and after the change, of course, it was not possible to run games on a lower software, so I experimented and it worked - including synchpornization of time from the Internet, the console does not have the latest official software - previously it had to work.
Of course, I know that HEN eliminated this problem, but not solve RTC unlock as far as I know, and in some cases you had to set the date manually

yeah, I think one of the goldhen versions fixed it for lower firmware using the patch sony made. it's mostly good for those on 5.05, any other firmware -- you should update.
