I think it's related to either the fingerprint or digest of base pkg.

the fingerprint is related to the passcode, but what I don't understand myself is wouldn't the fingerprint be the same for every fpkg if the passcode is always the same? the fingerprint can be seen in orbis. it looks like a bunch of gibberish like encrypted ascii text.

it probably has to do with whatever base pkg the uploader has. you need the base pkg to make an update pkg. when I did the bloodborne patch, I used the same base pkg I made when I dumped the game, so I didn't have to remarry the update pkg. speaking of which, I learned a few days ago that orbis does in fact encrypt the eboot.bin elf as fself by default, so there's no need to do it yourself. that is unless the bloodborne patcher did it.

Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
