I'll try recording a video of the crash later if I can (playing through that section again), I tried it last night three times and it crashed every time.

EDIT: Here's the video. I replayed through that part on handheld mode without the joycons attached, but I played the rest of the game on handheld mode with joycons attached.
Sorry if the quality is a bit potato, I recorded it with my phone.

EDIT2: Stupid hyperlink ruling lol I'm only 4 posts in.

Hey, instead of going to the door where it crashes, in your video, try entering the door to the left of it, and going to the far end of the room.
I didn't get that crash error, but I never enterd the door to the right and I continued playing just fine. (unitl the other bugs, that is)

I found a way to get around the softlock in the GFS section, for those that might have gone there and accidentally screwed themselves over when going there.
  1. One easy way to do it is to download the AM2R Launcher and the AM2R 1.1 version.
  2. Once both are downloaded, run the AM2R Launcher, so the v1.1 of AM2R gets updated to the latest v1.5.2.
  3. Run the updated version of AM2R and create a dummy file in each of the save slots, simply start a game and run into the ship to save immediately.
  4. Now that you have your AM2R updated to the latest version, dump your save file of AM2R with either Edizon or an save file dumper for the Switch.
  5. In your PC, go to the following location:
    C:/users/(Your Username)/AppData/Local/AM2R
  6. Inside that directory, you'll locate the dummy saves you generated in Step #3. You can pretty much Copy-Paste your Switch save files into the PC version
  7. Now that you have copied your Switch save files into the PC version, run the game, and go through whichever section you are stuck at, be it the GFS Elevator or the Tower Sentry boss. Defeat the boss, and save, or get out of the GFS section and save somewhere else.
  8. With your saves now done in other places and in a safe place, copy them back to the Switch SD and restore them back with Edizon or whichever save manager you use.
  9. Run AM2R on your Switch, and now your save files should be ready to keep obliterating Metroids!
Do take note that this is just a workaround to be able to finish the game in the Switch in case you encounter one of the two game breaking bugs (or both like in my case lol).

It'd still be desired to have both of these game breaking bugs fixes in a future revision, and hopefully the water SFX bug as well.

Hope this helps others!

Wow, you're absolutely right. I'm dumb as hell, at least the bug is reported.

Excellent workaround. I'll tackle this eventually when I get to that part.

I'm glad it worked out! :)

It worked for you?
I had issues with it with my save. I am not sure where I had the issue, but I haven't been able to get past the softlock yet in my save.

Anyone knows if the current available version is still the latest?
I'd love to see this port get fixed to finally have a fully working version of AM2R on Switch :/

I heard there were was pretty slick new updates to it, with new control schemes and the like. I'd LOVE to see the AM2R port updated on Switch as well. It seems like it'd very much be at home there.

Does it make me lazy if this is what gets me to finally try this game? I'm absolutely the sort of person to wait for stuff to get a Switch port, and this is no exception

Surprised that GameMaker allows for exporting to Switch formats/creating Switch shells for programs, but I also haven't messed with it in forever so I'm sure there's all kinds of stuff I missed out on
