Dishonored devs' Deathloop gets delayed again

header.jpg

Were you excited to play Bethesda's upcoming Deathloop? If so, you're going to have to hang in there a little while longer, because the game has just been delayed, again. Joining the ranks of games pushed back from their original release date recently, Deathloop was originally supposed to launch back in 2020, before getting delayed to May 2021, but now it won't even be making that window. Developer studio Arkane has decided to change Deathloop's release date to September 14th, citing the reason behind the delay as to create a quality game "while ensuring the health" of their workers. If Deathloop doesn't get delayed for a third time, you'll be able to play it on PC and PlayStation 5 this September.

So, is this game supposed to be like the Dark Souls of FPS, and not just in terms of difficulty? Like it has the mechanic where if you die, you lose all your experience and have to make it back to your dead body to get it all back?

Or am I reading too much into the title and the tagline in the upper left hand corner?

Blah blah miyamoto quote blah. Looks like covid is showing the toll it took last year.

I heard Phil Spencer say that it's gonna be this year where we're gonna see a drought in terms of new games.

Which is fine for me, personally. I got enough games in my backlog as it is, with the biggest and longest of these being the RPGs I never played growing up (Phantasy Star games, Wild ARMS, Trails in the Sky, various Tales Of games, etc.).

These alone could last you well into 2023, I'm certain. There certainly are enough games to last an eternity, even if video games as a whole just died out right this second, but it's never good for an industry to hit a brick wall. That being said, backwards compatibility is a saving grace and likely will be for quite a while...

"I ain't dead I'm coming back for more"

last game was made 10 years ago

That's what happens when you don't make a game with a clear vision for what it's gonna look like at the end of development and just take mechanics and gameplay ideas from other FPS on the market to the point of it being a detriment to what people remembered Duke for: no regenerating health, being able to hold more than two weapons (which really screwed this game over when every boss requires a rocket launcher), and a whole host of other problems.

So it was a franchise killer

I seen a trailer for this game quite a few times at TGA, Microsoft/Sony's directs. Every time I seen it, it always looked so bland and forgettable to me.

It seems to be taking its cues more from roguelikes and roguelites than Dark Souls. For that matter, Arkane already developed a Prey spinoff similar to this concept called Mooncrash. Who knows how much of that game will be directly lifted for Deathloop though, how much will be tweaked, and how much will be tossed.
