So I'm debating these two, mostly leaning to the xperia 5 ii and wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't. The Sony will cost a little more but the headphone jack, microsd slot, and OEM charger in the box offset that for me. The Sony also is a little less wide across the front so more comfortable to control one-handed. But the Sony obviously isn't a hot seller while everyone who isn't on the Apple bandwagon seems to be on the Samsung train. I know the phone thing is a clannish poop-throwing war, but which would you pick? Buying unlocked, getting sim from carrier.

im surprise someone is asking about a sony phone lol , id go for the sony one , less bloated , and i always had wonderful experiences with previous xperia phones.

Yeah I just don't get why. I keep wondering, what is the amazing feature on the Samsungs that's better and makes everyone flock to them (if not Apple, but Apple isn't part of this discussion)?

marketing . sony makes great phone , bnut the availability and the advertisment isnt there , lets says here in quebec out of 5 top cellphone provider 0 offer a sony one but all of them got samsungs phones , more than one offers .

samsung makes phone bloated with advertisment and stuffs

so they can push the brand , offer stuffs to phone providers so they put their phone in their ads or have special offers . etc .

I wouldn't even consider a phone without a MicroSD slot. If there's one thing I've learned is that I'm *always* going to need more storage eventually.
Chargers, eh, I already have a couple. I like having a headphone jack, but at the same time, attaching a cheap adapter to my headphone cable isn't much trouble, and that way I'll always have it handy when I need it, so it's not like it's much added hassle.
Samsung phones are just getting too damn expensive IMO. I'm not sure what I'm going with next, but it's probably not going to be Samsung, even though I love my S7 Edge. Maybe Xiaomi. OnePlus and Google Pixel don't seem to have any phones with MicroSD so those are not an option, otherwise they seem great. Huawei stopped allowing bootloader unlocking/root so fuck them.

Was hoping for more input on this, but I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Sony. Next stop, 'what have you bought lately' thread lol.

Good choice, I have been using Xperia phones for a while now and I must say that they are highly underrated, making them extremely cheap... I got a BNIB (brand new in box) Xperia XZ for £80 100% working recently, part of me wants these phones to continue being underrated (so the price is cheap) but the other part wants for them to be more popular so sony has an incentive to release more of them.
