Building an emulated nand is easy. But whatever "old hack" you had that enabled this was a usb loader, and they either still have the old option, I'm not sure, or there's this alternative. Best to ask in the thread for the usb loader of your choice

It wasn't an usb loader, my wii was hacked, I put a sd card in and could move or copy saves to it, simple and easy.

Nintendont overheats my sd card even when I load a game from a disc!

Gonna try playing a Gamecube game without it to see what happens.

Back in the day u may have also used start patch, but that's ancient by today's standards

Probably that one, at least it let the Wii read the sd card and copy saves to it.

Priiloader does this as well, which is why start patch isn't used any longer since priiloader does all that and more. Go and enable the hack and you'll see that any saves that u were not able to move/copy before will work afterwards.

On another note, how are you so convinced your sd card is overheating? If it gets a little warm that's not a big deal

Because the Wii turns off on its own and when I remove the sd card is really hot? Something that only seems to happen when I run Nintendont, be the game from the sd card, usb stick or even a dvd?

Edit: Apparently my Wii heats the sd cars way too fast even while running games directly from a disc. Probably needs cleaning. ..

Cyan just shared this explanation of how USBLoaderGX's settings work that seems relevant:

- EmuNAND save doesn't need an actual NAND dump to work.
you can point to an empty folder, and it'll store/read/write Wii disc-based savegames on that folder instead of NAND.
"EmuNAND Save" set to partial redirects the \title\ folder on NAND to "emuNAND save path".

If you set to Full, it also redirect everything else, and expect to find the files on emuNAND, (mii, settings, cache, etc.), so a FULL dump is required to use FULL setting.
Partial doesn't.

- If you just dumped NAND, this is a full copy of your NAND, which already contains everything !
no need to dump Miis, sysconf, all saves again OVER the already dumped content.
Just a full NAND dump is enough.

So out of curiosity has anyone spotted the egg added to modmii with this update?

If you have, please just say you found it and don't say what it actually is (or at least not here) :)

Any hint please? B-)
Good Morning.:)

The problem is with the previous hack my Wii could see the sd card contents, now it doesn't. So I can copy stuff to the card but the Wii crashes if I go to the sd card folder.

How r u trying to access the SD card when It crashes?

Homebrew

Nintendont

Load SD /USB / DISK (TRIED ALL OF THEM!)

Game can be played for 20-30 minutes then the Wii turns off.

Then I remove the sd card and tourch it and is really hot.

Heck is even hot, but not so much when I load a Gamecube game using just the Wii firmware and nothing else.

I think my old Wii 4.3U may need cleaning.

Alternately I am hacking my bavkup Wii 4.0U

Using Classic mode wizard

Upgrading to 4.1U

Will post later how it goes.

Edit: Horrible, the Wii just won't read the stupid ss card or load the homebrew channel.

Edit2: Finally did it. Now to update...

Edit3: Updated to 4.1U, now comes the resr of the Wads.

Edit4: Is a problem my Wii 4.3 U had for a while, any time I used loaders? Maybe is due to bad sectors? A problem with the dvd reader being over the SD card? Hardware defect?

Or maybe just a stuck fan?

https://blog.jonschneider.com/2009/02/wii-overheating-and-powering-off-due-to.htmt

Edit5: Either fan or battery. Anyway replaced it with my backup Wii and things are working fine.

I think the actual problem is your Wii and not the mods.

I'm wondering if the actual problem with your Wii overheating is the power supply, maybe it is going bad or irregular voltage causing the internal Wii components to overheat. The SD card is just getting hot because it is in proximity.

The Wii itself it overheating, not the SD card, and is then shutting down.

Could be the battery, the console has over twelve years of use, it wouldn't surprise me if the battery needs replacing.

Is either that or the fan being stuck due to dirt. Anyway using my backup Wii now as I don't dare to open the 4.3U Wii to look things up. Backup Wii also is working well.

Now to get Wiiware to work either on the Wii or an emulator on PC...

I never heard of hardware overheating because of a dead battery. Your fan isn't working well I guess. System shutdown appears because of overheating. A faulty IOS, mod etc wouldn't even let the system start at first point.

Probably not the battery making it overheat, but might need replacing to keep the proper time and settings.

Now a clogged fan does make a lot of sense and could be the real issue. I'd now put that at the top of the list of what is probably causing it to overheat.

even from disc, that's strange. it should do it if there's a continuous read/write to the SD card, but nintendon't doesn't access it unnecessarily if you play from disc. It uses the SD only to store the savegame when exiting the game.

the console shutdown by itself ?
I remember some permanent Video card issue due to heat. I hope you won't have that problem.

Did you try to open the console and check if there's a lot of dust inside ?
or maybe the fan is not working anymore, do you hear the fan noise when playing? or is it properly blowing ?

I also don't think the battery can make the console overheat, but on the contrary the battery itself can cause the console to shutdown.
It's even the battery which shutdown, the console won't power AT ALL. no red light anymore.
It happened to my while the playing NDS emulator, I thought I asked too much of the console's power and I fried it. (I made a blog about thinking my wii was dead).
It turned out it was only a problem with the battery, and I had to unplug it from both side (console and Wall plug) for few hours. it worked fine again :D
I never knew if it was linked with the power consumption as failsafe, or it was just a battery defect.

If you only want to access the SD card in the Data management menu, be sure it's formatted as FAT32, and it's an SD (if you are on old sysmenu/IOS) or SDHC if you are on 4.x.
Do not use an SDXC on Wii (it works only on WiiU vWii)

Ok, so I'll have to ask about the SDXC. I've been using them for years on my Wii's (original, not Wii U) without any problems. Has there been an issue with them?

As far as I know they have had access and work on any system menu since 4.0 and work fine on all 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 menus.

I have for MANY years used SDHC & SDXC cards (mostly PNY, SanDisk & Fuji) and have over 35 SXDC cards currently in use (ok collecting dust right now) on my current Wii "Collection" and have set up many more for others without any issues with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB, 256GB & 512GB SDHC/SDXC cards. Holding off on those 1TB cards until the prices drop closer to $80.

hmm, SDXC are working fine ?
damn, where did I get that idea then ? Even on data management, not only homebrew?
I'll have to update my memory ;)

Thanks, and sorry for wrong information.

Not a problem, that's why we're all here, to help and learn from each other.

Usually I'm learning form you guys, so it's nice to be able to contribute every now and then.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I thought SDXC only worked in homebrew, I may be misinformed as well

My current SD card in use is a PNY 256GB SDXC. I use it for enuNAND, emulators, Wii & GameCube titles. Been using it for years.

I really only play a handful of Wii & GameCube titles. I keep them on the SDXC card so I don't have to put wear and tear on my external HDD. I really only attach the 5TB to the Wii when I'm adding titles to it, testing something or when people are over (to be a show off having 2,100 games available)

The 1TB cards look nice, but I'm holding off for pricing to come down. My dream would be a working 5TB SDXC card so I can eliminate the HDD all together. Who knows, it could work?.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.

Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
