Incredible people are still updating stuff to hack the Wii and run stuff on it.

Anyway due to stormy weather I am having to wait to see if I have the same problem while running games from the SD card instead of a USB stick.

Yes, that might be a good solution if you do not have a hard drive. As long as you are on system menu 4.0+ you can also use large SD cards.

I use 128GB, 256GB & 512GB SDXC cards. I have quite a few games on my SD card for when there is not a hard drive attached, that way I always have access to the games I want to play no matter what.

I have three external hard disks but they are used for PC backups so sd card it is. I don't want to backup on FAT32 if I can help it due to file size and name length limitations. Besides as I use Linux Ext2 is great for external storage.

Mostly I want to run Gamecube, Wiiware and Nintendo 64 games (How I do those?) for Wii games I don't mind burning DVDs instead.

There are almost no reasons to stay on older than 4.3 firmware nowadays as the compatibility with bigger sd cards and other updates is useful.

By the way what I do with my Wii saves? The Wii itself is almost full.

Good Morning. 1tee.gif

You can extract it with

- the USBLoader GX to an emuNAND (and load it with USBLoader GX of course)
- make a Backup with Savegame Manager GX to SD Card
- and then delete it from the Wii NAND

@ca032769 & @raxadian, I think support for larger sd cards that comes from the latest firmwares is for official functions only (like system menu \ data management). If the SD card is being used by homebrew I don't think firmware makes a difference.

@raxadian, soon I hope to make some fixes to get ModMii to work from your Program Files (x86) folder. When it's ready can I share with you to test?

Interesting... I think that SMW mod may be newer than the version that comes w modmii
I've always used this one. It's pretty stable.

Usin emuNAND for saving is possible. emuNAND has no limit, I mean it does, depends on your SD card storage limit.

And how do use USBLoader GX , a emuNAND (and load it with USBLoader GX of course) and make a Backup with Savegame Manager GX?

I am used to just scrub game isos and burn dvds, all these fancy new things got me confused.

Depends on the homebrew. Homebrew that doesn't have the option to use stuff with more space coded in might load those functions from whatever firmware is running on the Wii. Or it might crash; depends on how it was coded.

Remember, lazy programing and shortcuts are things that not only exist but happen all the freaking time.

Edit: I should know, I used to code in BASIC.

I'm sorry, I should give more precise answers:
You can dump your Wii NAND onto your SD card, all settings, all saves etc will be dumped. You can use this dump folder on your SD card automatically. You just have to enable it in ULGX. The dumped NAND is in a folder on the root of your SD card called "nand". You then can take out this SD card, put it in your PC, then open up ShowMiiNand 1.5.2 by Leathl (mod by orwel & Brawl).
Go to "Options" menu and select "Change NAND Backup Path". Select the "nand" folder in your SD card. All your installed Wiiware etc will be showed in the lister. Right click on any title and you have many options including savedata etc. To add more wads to this emuNAND just right click in this lister again (even on any title, doesn't matter) and select "Install". If you select "File" you can add a wad file. If you select "Folder" you can add all wads in a folder just in a single click.

So... this will allow my wii to read saves from the sd card or what?

This will allow only ULGX to read, write saves to the emuNAND. If you want to use emuNAND on normal Wii, you have to use SNEEK or UNEEK. ModMii can set up SNEEK or UNEEK for you. SNEEK is for an emuNAND on a SD card, UNEEK is for an emuNAND on USB peripherals. IMHO to select and play all Wii/WiiWare/GameCube on a single interface (ULGX) is much better. It's your choice.

Isn't there an easy way to just have the saves in the sd card? I could do that with the old hack I had.

Building an emulated nand is easy. But whatever "old hack" you had that enabled this was a usb loader, and they either still have the old option, I'm not sure, or there's this alternative. Best to ask in the thread for the usb loader of your choice

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So out of curiosity has anyone spotted the egg added to modmii with this update?

If you have, please just say you found it and don't say what it actually is (or at least not here) :)
So no one? :P

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more

    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
