Adobe products are expensive.
its as simple as that. You have to pay a subscription for them and you probably are paying too much.
you can get the same or hell even better experiences and tools for less or even free.
I have compiled a list of these programs with the help of others that you can try yourself that cost less or are even free to use with some even open source.
Perhaps i could help you save a bit of money or even make it so you dont have to spend any at all :)

I like avisynth myself for video work. Chuck on something like megui on the backend and maybe virtualdub for a frame checker/preview and all good.
Vapoursynth has its fans too

Similarly many will want RAW support for various camera purposes both in photoshop and with Adobe's lightroom providing what many consider the defining standard (though if you are already caught up in the adobe whirlwind...) and while there are some plugins for GIMP and paint.net then they also lack management tools so people in turn tend to start with

There are a few others that are more simplistic too, though that can be what people want if they just need to do some colour correction.

alternativeto.net - always is worth a look as well.

But if we are talking alternatives I actually use:

Acorn

on Mac (Photoshop alternative).

30MB in size, lightweight, fast - and does everything I need it to do for most of my image editing.
