Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space is a game about saving the world through time travel, features a cat, bills itself as a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger, and even boasts the talent of Chrono Trigger's writer and composer, all whilst being a JRPG free-to-play mobile game. There's a lot to unpack, there. The game has confirmed that it will be headed west again, but instead of mobile platforms, this time it'll be on PC, with a release set for Spring 2021 on Steam.

As for the content of the game, Another Eden originally launched on mobile in Japan in 2017 and later received a localization on Android and iOS two years later. It's a gacha game, meaning it's free-to-play, but features in-app purchases in order for players to obtain new characters. Though it may have microtransactions, Another Eden is a single-player game and maintains that it has a focus on its narrative first and foremost, of which is being penned by Masato Kato, of Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VII, and Xenogears fame. That's not the only talent from Chrono Trigger working on the game, either, as composer Yasunori Mitsuda is handling the soundtrack to Another Eden as well, having created over 60 songs so far for it.

A Nintendo Switch version of the game is also in the works, though it has no release window at this time. A Steam page for the game is currently available, and those that wishlist the game prior to release will receive a bonus character for doing so upon the game's launch. As a note, it will not be released in Belgium due to the country's stance on gacha games.

Embark on a journey beyond time and space.
To save our lost future.
Before the darkness of time falls upon us all...

Scenario: Masato Kato
Main Theme: Yasunori Mitsuda
Acclaimed creators from a number of well-known and popular series have come together to bring an exciting and epic RPG.

Last time a game claimed having Chrono Trigger people involved I was really disappointed.

I do not trust this even more just by that screenshot, looks exactly like one of those thousands of mobile games with pay to win elements.

Let's just hope the devs can use the money they got in this gacha game to develop a proper full game and not a free-to-play one.

In any case, they added robot Hatsune Miku to this game.

Hmm, hard to believe it'll be worth the time investment even if you can finish it without spending a dime. The problem with gacha games is that you can't really write a compelling story about a group of characters drawn out of a hat at random. It just ends up being some generic, broad strokes good versus evil type of thing. Never very memorable or interesting.

Liked your post because I agree, but taking the time to reply just to say that's the coolest forum avatar of zero I've ever seen. **X/Zero/ZX big time fan high five**

Sands of Destruction (DS)? I only found out about that the other day. Seems to be poorly-regarded.
Never heard of that one.
I had I am Setsuna in mind.

Not that just, but like all mobile games have sup-bar gameplay compared to... well, anything, really.
Even if the story was compelling and all, the gameplay could be so brainless and boring, or worse, ultra grindy af, to just, like, ruin it anyway.

Mobile continues to be a stain on gaming

I kinda wish phones never got good just so that we could still have a legitimate handheld game market
Me too, I hate that the Switch is the only relevant handheld, besides modded gameboys and Famiclone chinese garbage handhelds.

Well, mobile and console users are two different crowds... casuals vs. gamers (it's not so black and white, but generally speaking). If the publishers can make more money by releasing stuff also on mobiles, then good for them. It gives them a better budget for serious games on consoles.
