Any Wii can play GameCube games via Nintendont, even Wii U and Wii Mini. I don't know if there's a way to play them via disc, though.
but some Wiis don't have the GC controller ports...
Nintendont allows you to use USB HID input in place of GameCube pads if configured to do so.
you mean I could use a different USB controller ? doesn't it have to be configured ?
For softmodding, do you recommend a 001 or a 101 ?

Sure you can. Just connect them up to WiiMiiSwitch. He has several inlets to do that.

they run perfectly on a softmodded wii due to not being emulated
with dolphin, its down to your hardware
you should be good then, you could even upscale to 1080p resolution without any noticable performance hit imo

great in dolphin, i have never had a compatibility issue with retail games before.
with a softmodded wii, you should be getting 100% compatibility since its using the real hardware and isn't being emulated.
i would say they are both on par with each other
Dolphin is an Emulator and not meticulously accurate like the real Wii´s Hardware.
Games/ISO´s/wbfs Files that work on Dolphin does not mean that they have to work properly on the real Wii.
Dolphin is amazing. But Dolphin will never, ever be able to run GC games (or Wii games) as well as a Wii. That's just not possible. And there remain games that don't play properly on Dolphin (I read their progress reports and have for years).
It is also true that a Wii plays GC games BETTER than a GC. What I mean is that there are several GC games that have framerate issues on real GCs, but don't on real Wiis. As far as RVL-101s reading GC discs, they do not have the mechanism in their DVD drives to "grab" GC discs and therefore cannot read them. Theoretically you could put a RVL-001 drive in a RVL-101 to solve that problem. But using a USB drive and ISO/NKit files is a much better idea since both DVD drives and the optical discs themselves often fail.
