Easy fixed! If you go into the quick menu and Options (not control options), there's some option to map directions or something to analog or digital, and the default will already be set to analog (it's one of the first few lines, you'll see it). Change it to digital and it'll go to the d-pad.

Glad to hear that cheats fix worked too, couldn't find a fix anywhere so it would've been the only solution!
Perfect, thank u very much. Will try that out soon.
As already stated I really don't care for cheats while playing arcade games so that fix is one with no downsides for me. =)

Few issues with cores that require Keyboard, plus mapping gaming controls. How do you guys do it?

i.e. Vice X64Fast, example running Spyhunter.
They keyboard overlay cant get past demo/trainers it doesn't register the keypress.
Then trying to map keyboard control to the switch controls, there's not enough controls for all the Keys that Spyhunter needs.

Also Dosbox, example running Wolfenstein 3D
when I enable "enable gamepad emulated mouse" The right stick will work as mouse, but pressing UP is registering as LEFT. Right and Down works fine... How can I fix this? this is crazy unusable..

Should be the two buttons in the middle.
Otherwise go into the input settings and set them to anything else before you open a content.

Yeah tried that a bunch of times, did it again just to make sure. Other buttons work, but start and select / another combination does not bring up the menu in game. Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Hi guys, I'm new to this Retroarch stuff. I got SNES working just fine and loaded some roms, and everything works fine on my Nintendo switch. I'm having a problem with N64. I loaded the rom Mario Kart 64 and it loads and runs fine but I'm unable to control anything, none of the buttons or analog sticks work, I can't even start the game by press the "start" button or + button. Does anyone know how I can fix the controls on N64 emulation in RetroArch (Using nintendo switch)?

Try this:
Press the + and - to bring up the menu once you are in a rom.
Go down to controls and go into port 1 controls
Go to Analog to Digital Type and change to None.

Nothing seems to be working, it's almost like the controller is unplugged or not detected. I'm trying to play it in handheld mode if that makes a difference

Hey all,
I am at a loss because at this point I dont know what to try.

Im currently on 11.0.1 AMS 0.18.1

Was previously on 9.0 but have been out of the loop for a while, figured moving to Atmosphere and updating wouldn't hurt. (Man i was wrong)

So far I have formatted the SD card to fat32 a few times.
From fresh SD copied over the latest AMS files
Copied over The latest Retroarch files.

Any time I try to boot I get an error.

Code:
(2168-0002)

Process Info:
    Process Name: hbloader
    Program ID: 010000000000100d
    Process ID: 0000000000000083
    Process Flags: 000000b7
    User Exception Address: 00000057e0dbf000
Exception Info:
    Type: Data Abort
    Address: 0000000000000000
Crashed Thread Info:

The only thing I have not tried is initializing my switch.

Currently I only have the retroarch files and the required Atmosphere files but the program will not open.

Never mind, I just realized there is a new way of launching the homebrew menu, sigh.

Hey everyone! Did a forum search and it didn't come up with anything so hopefully this hasn't been answered a million times.

I got my switch set up yesterday running the latest atmosphere, sig patches, retroarch, I'm also on latest firmware.
My sd card is FAT32.
My archive bits have been fixed.

My issue is when I do a scan in retroarch it only picks up my snes games. My n64 and gba folders aren't being detected. If I do a manual scan, it will scan all of the files and add the N64 and GBA options in my list just below SNES, but when I select them the playlist is empty.

If I try to manually load a core, either mupen64 plus next or VBA next, I just get a black screen and it goes back to the main menu. I assume this is because it's loading the core but no rom.

If I select load content and pick the rom specifically out of the gba or n64 folders, it will let me pick it, but when it gives me a suggested core to load, all I have are 2 mame emulators and a naomi flycast emulator. There are no other cores in the list.

I checked my cores folder and vba next and mupen64plus next are both there. The only difference I can think of is my snes folder are all sfc files, whereas the gba and n64 are .7z. From what I understand that isn't supposed to be an issue though.

Thanks in advance! :)

Try extracting the roms and loading .z64 and .gba directly, maybe RA doesn't like 7z or something. My snes and gba roms (.sfc and .gba) are zipped and everything woks fine tho. Also, when you do manual scan, you have to specify the extensions to scan for.

I think I've found the problem. These rom sets are merged. So for example one 7z archive has like 4-5 versions of the game (pal/ntsc/english/1.0/1.1 etc.) so I think I need to go through each one and extract the version I want. If it was just one file inside the 7 archive it would likely work. Yeesh. Oh well, at least I've figured out what the issue is!

I think that you can create a playlist that scans 7zip contents, listing all the files inside or you can also create a playlist with the 7z files, but then it's going to pick the first one...

Sadly Retroarch doesn't handle 7zip files very well
