'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' PS Vita port released

gta san andreas ps vita port.PNG

If you have a PS Vita and are a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series, then you are in luck. Earlier this week, modders Rinnegatamante and TheFlow announced that they ported GTA: Vice City to the PS Vita. Now the team has announced that their port of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is also available on Sony's handheld. Although they announced that this project was a WIP previously and needed optimizations, we did not know when a full release would happen. The wait is now over.

To recall, this port of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is based on the Android version of the game but this port comes with a bunch of custom patches such as:
  • Fixed camera controls for flying vehicles (including the Hydra jet).
  • Fixed broken facial expressions.
  • Fixed cheats hash key table.
  • Removed specular lighting on pedestrians.
  • PS2-like rendering.
To get started, you will, of course, need to provide your own copy of the game. The modders behind the port have shared a full setup guide over on the GitHub repository linked below, along with other tips to optimize the experience.

I'm curious...A couple years ago, rockstar gave GTA: San Andreas away as a promo for their online platform(1). Would that version work for this purpose?

Either way, I'll wait for the wiiu version. I don't even remember what kind of hacked status my vita's in...:P

(1): and later gave away gta 5 on epic store, so I doubt it was a very successfull platform.
I believe it's mentioned in the Github page that R*'s version won't work. So, either get it on Steam or if you know any other source...

Even the steam version won't work. It has to be the Android version for SA. This port makes the Vita able to run the Android executable natively.

The III and Vice City ports on the other hand compile a Vita executable so they can use the PC versions no problem.

The game originally came out for the ps2. This port is of an android version.
It’s both experiences at the same time.

You should grab them soon as possible they all run & play great ..... i finished VC Stories on my beloved PSP years ago ...

Thanks for the recommendation! But maybe I'm too late. I've read that the downloads were removed due to a DMCA takedown.

I've finished VC Stories too back in the day. It was my first PSP game even before I've hacked it. Game came with the console. :)

I'll look for the files on the above sources, thank you! :)

Yeah, VC Stories and LC Stories were good games for PSP and PS2. I finished both games and enjoyed the PSP as a portable console as much as I could during my high school and college years. :D

I know the feeling! Those games had pretty neat graphics for a portable console and the best thing was being able to play on the go and with friends that also had a PSP using wireless connection! You even had games like Tekken Dark Resurrection that allowed you to play with friends using the ad hoc mode with only one of the players owning the game. It was already so advanced for 2005. :D

I think I'm the only one on Gbatemp.net who didn't have a hacked PSP... The shame...

the time has come and gone i have 2 hacked Vita's FAT & OLED ........ & hacked everything else inbetween ..but alas no PSP

That's funny, but it makes sense. I think PSP was my first hacked console. Now it's still working, but needs a new battery. I really enjoy my Vita. It's also OLED and only bought it few months ago. :D

Vita's are a great handheld especially a hacked one... The 1st hacked console I ever had that got me addicted to hacking was my old Dreamcast... Man I loved that thing back in the day...

True! I bought one this late just because I've read marvelous things about the advantages of a hacked Vita. It took me a while to find a proper one at a good price. Now I'm happy cuz I can play MGS 2 and 3 with great graphics and on the go. I have MGS 3 for the 3DS, but it's not the same when compared to the PS Vita one. Even if I've also played it in the past in my PS2 and still own a legit copy of the game.
Dreamcast? Never played that much. Had a cousin with one, but we rarely saw each other, so in the end I never knew the console that well. But a lot of people really enjoyed it a lot. :D
