I've heard that GBA VC Injections perform flawlessly due to running on the native 3DS GBA hardware, but several games (Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade) have frame drops. Other than that, everything is fine. Is this a unique issue to me, and is there a solutions? Or do VC Injections not run flawlessly like everyone says they do? I've looked all over the web and haven't found any solutions or anyone else having this problem.

If you have a NEW model console, then better use an emulator (like mGBA or gPSP)

Are you sure these "frame drops" don't happen on the original GBA hardware?
I doubt that they would have released the game if the spell animations brought the game to a crawl, and I’ve never heard of FPS drops for the GBA FEs

Try enabling the "L2+Cache" option on Luma Settings and see if that helps
I’ve tried it with the injections and it didn’t help. Would it help with the mGBA?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Are you sure those injections are using the 3DS hardware and not the Retroarch emulator?
Why would it run Retroarch when it’s not on my 3DS? They were injected with New Super Ultimate Injector in GBA Virtual Console mode

Because with NSUI you can choose to use Retroarch, which would then be "hidden" inside the cia. But if you use d tha GBC VC moderna that's not the case. Where do those frame drops happen? Are they far in the game? I'd like to test there games myself, this is very strange!

It may be worthwhile to test the games using open_agb_firm. (Technically they should run exactly the same with open_agb_firm as they would with a native VC inject.)

I doubt that they would have released the game if the spell animations brought the game to a crawl
It's pretty amazing what developers think they can get away with these days, is it not?

The fastest way to test the Frame Drop is to boot up FE: The Binding Blade, go to ‘Extras > Tutorial’ and play until you get Lilina. Then, make her cast ‘Fire’ on an enemy unit. The game stutters for me slightly, easy to notice by her cape slowing down (It should look the same the whole time). It’s very noticeable on the chapter 6 boss ‘Wagner’ and his ‘Flux’ spell.

I just tried running open_agb_firm and it ran exactly like the NSUI VC injects, same frame stutters and everything. Is it supposed to be like this, or this unique to me?

The other important question is: what size is your SD card? If it is over 64 GB, did you format it with 64k clusters? Native GBA games are known to have problems on large SD cards. (But usually the problem manifests itself in other ways.)

You may also consider GBARunner2 (via TWiLight Menu). It will likely run better than mGBA.

My MicroSd is a 64gb SanDisk Extreme. Should I format it with 64k clusters, and how can I do that?

There are numerous format tools and Google should tell you more, but if it is only 64 GB, then that seems like an unlikely problem.

Do you have a smaller SD card handy? It should be easy to do some quick tests with open_agb_firm and establish whether the size of the card is a factor.

Just tried it with open_agb_firm on an 8gb MicroSD card, same results. Is there any hope to get these games to run properly? I have yet to try GBARunner2, though.

UPDATE: Just tried it on GBARunner2. Runs at a clean 60 FPS, no audio issues. However, there are duplicating lines (or "ripples") at the bottom of the screen. So it's not a hardware issue, so what is stopping the Virtual Console injections from running properly? Is the 3DS downclocking too far? Is there any solution or am I damned to imperfect emulation of these games at every turn?

So, the game runs better with GBARunner2 than it does with native GBA firm. This is unheard of.

The only other possibility that occurs to me is that this is some kind of obscure anti-piracy function, in which case you should try to find an anti-piracy patch.

Otherwise, I think GBARunner2 is still under active development, so perhaps you could search around and see if similar problems have been reported, or file a bug report yourself.

It's fine, I think?

How do you know the slowdown isn't what actually happens on original hardware? GBARunner2 is not very accurate and may run this faster than it should be.
