and I would think they would issue a firmware update change if lots of people had issues
They didn't do anything in the past. Here's an example. Pokémon sword and shield also caused data corruption. And afaik they never did anything to fix something for this problem.

Well, I'll keep running exFAT and see what happens :)
If you think you know better than all the homebrew devs, feel free to remain ignorant. And besides, we are not talking about a "can" but a "will". The question is not "if" but "when".

Nah I'm not ignorant, but I'd like to confirm things on my own, besides it's not really a big issue if it does happen,
I can always re-install my stuff on a new card, and backup my saves if needed from the built in storage ...

I could probably copy all the files from the exFAT SD to a new FAT32 SD one just in case I suppose :)

Well, I'll keep running exFAT and see what happens :)

Switch by default formats exFAT on SD cards bigger than 32GB,
and I would think they would issue a firmware update change if lots of people had issues,
why would they cause themselves all the trouble supporting customers who have issues ...

I think a lot of these problems are user related issues, but maybe I'm wrong :)
You are most definitely wrong because both developers and users have come to the conclusion that exFAT has and will always be the sole cause of corruption. This question isn't even up for debate. Every single person here has told you the same thing but you remain defiant. If you want to insist that you are not ignorant, then spend just one minute searching exFAT with the Switch and you will find only corruption.

As for your other point, Nintendo has zero incentive to fix exFAT because users who don't hack actually have no need for exFAT because all games are automatically split into <4 GB chunks. Fixing exFAT would only benefit hacked users which Nintendo would never do. And I don't see why anyone would format their SD card with the Switch rather than a computer.

I get it, I've seen all the complaints about exFAT and corruption, but like I said most switch users will format the card
using their switch or just leave it alone, meaning by default it will be exFAT and use it that way since they don't know better.

It would be really stupid for nintendo to allow issues like this to continue, even on nintendo branded SD cards,
but who knows maybe they just don't care as you've mentioned ...

Your first point is mere conjecture with no proof. Especially among those who hack, people insert their SD card onto their computer first to not only put files but potentially format the SD card. Its also not stupid because as I stated earlier, there is no reason for any non-hacked user to use exFAT. If you can name a reason why they would, I'm all ears otherwise it only benefits hackers. The Switch has been out for 4 years now, you really think there is a chance they care?

I know a bunch of people that have Switches and buy games, no hacking.
All of them know enough to plug the card and format directly from the Switch.
Even if they didn’t format these 256gb and 400gb cards would be pre formatted with exFat.
Nintendo if they knew their exFAT is buggy as hell, which maybe they do, would try fixing it, unless they can’t since it was licensed, as it would generate unnecessary support calls.

I’m strictly talking about people that don’t modify the consoles though ...

I highly doubt its a licensing issue since Nintendo doesn't charge for people who want to add exFAT support. You don't even need to go online to add it since Nintendo pre-bundles the exFAT support into all of their firmware versions except 1.0. I am also skeptical Nintendo is not aware of the issue as the Switch is reaching its halfway point so exFAT may have caused issues for non-hackers. If even if it never caused problems for them, it has caused issues for people who hack which Nintendo would definitely be aware of because there is plenty of evidence to support that Nintendo follows hacking scenes whether from the 3DS leak to the DMCA of modchip installers.

Oh for sure, but like you said they won't fix it if it only or mostly causes issues for the hacking scene,
in fact I bet they would do anything to make it work even worse :)

I guess I'll find out if I run into any issues, I do pretty "normal" stuff on mine haha,
and none of my friends (who don't hack and are running exFAT) had any issues,
but of course that's a small sample size ...

If someone wants to stay on exfat I could not care less even though I know it causes corruption because it happened to me over 2 years ago. Used Fat32 ever since and no problems and the only thing you have to learn to do on Fat32 is usb install your games which is easy and saves time because you don't have to even remove your sd card but it's their switch even if they want to set it on fire it's not my issue. The corruption seems to usually happen with Retroarch but can happen with other homebrew apps. If it gets corrupted they have no one to blame but themselves but some people it doesn't happen so whatever. Not worth spending a lot of time trying to convince someone that won't listen.

So if you put in an SD card and format it with a switch, does it format it exFAT or FAT32?

It will depend on how large the SD card is but the point is you should not be using the Switch to format your SD card, hacked or not. Using a computer is the recommended way.

Thank you for replying. Because I have not updated my Switch firmware to 11.0. It still stays at 10.3

But my Atmosphere is updated from AMS 0.14 to AMS 0.17.1, but I did not updated my sigpatches yet.
You only need to update patches if you update firmware. They don't change between Atmosphere versions.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
