playing backups, ps2 games to an extent if it's nonbc, some psp games, a lot of retro games. unlike the 360, the ps3 has a very active homebrew scene that's still going, so things continue to get better. it has one of the longest running homebrew communities I've ever seen for a system.

probably allows as much freedom as the vita in terms of what you can do. I have about 50 games installed to my 1TB internal hdd. they're only games I'd play.

The best part of hacking a PS3 is that you can run the fan at max speed at all times so it sounds like a jet engine is taking off.

to me it's everything everybody has already said here.
the benefits of hacking a ps3 hugely outweigh the negatives of not hacking it,
i think hacking a ps3 is like hacking a ps vita/psp/3ds etc,
you get so much more benefits in doing so that having a stock one that is limited to only a few locked things it can do,
whereas unlocked it can do so much more, expect it can't make you, your coffee yet.

think of hacking a system like BOTW case:

Unhacked system: you are stuck on the great Platueu (a limited area that you can't do much in)
hacked system: you can leave the Great plateueu and explore the great, great, great out outdoors that offer you so much more that you could possbly imgaine! .

to me hacking a system is like this expoloration in BOTW, from great plateu to greatness.

It really depends. What else do you have? Besides playing PS3-PS2 games, if you have a decent PC or a Raspberry you aren't missing much, technically. I bought one and the only advantage I ever had from it was literally be able to play online freely with it. But if we're talking about retro emulation the Raspberry beats it by a mile. It's still a very, very good console and I noticed that the homebrew scene is pretty active, too.
