Hm... I saw that you made a tool which can convert those .msg files to .dat, but I hope you don't mind me asking, if you couldn't see the Japanese text, then how did you manage to reimport English text? Trial and error?
@HinaNaru Cutie Probably means playing through the game and using an OCR to turn the screen (images) into text that you can edit. The font looks pretty standard, so an OCR shouldn't have too much trouble identifying the text as long as it's set up correctly. Honestly, that's not really an ideal method because not only is it a pain to pull out each sentence by hand, but also however text reinsertion is being done you'll probably end up having to copy and paste each line back over which is enough to drive anyone mad lol. But maybe @Robz8 will have more to idea about that.
By the way, I think it's really wonderful that you're trying to translate games the best you can! Even a proffessional translator has to do some legwork to make a translation sound good, so I think, give me someone with the determination to translate a game they can't understand over a lazy translator any dayBut, I don't think just relying on DeepL is the way to go. If I might be so bold as to plug my own post lol, I reccomend you read my guide (it explains about OCR stuff too.) Although it doesn't produce natural sentences like DeepL can, RomajiDesu is my no1 tool for translating because then you can really understand each word, and with the translation suggestions from things like DeepL and Google Translate, you make a sentence that's really accurate. I hope it can be useful to you

If someone could help me out on how to put these translations into the game I would certainly do that , but I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to romhacking. Other than that , yes it is still alive for me forsure!
Is there a way for me to put the msg files back into the game so I can see how the translation looks? It feels weird translating while I have no context for the scene or what's on the screen. Also just for testing reasons so I can see if the words fit properly! Also my fiancé is volunteering to also help out with testing translations , he's also a little better at Japanese slang.
that's a good question, it's best to wait until @Robz8 responds back because they seem to be resting up or is busy with other things, i do hope they know how to do it. and that's sweet of your fiance to help in :3.
also you could try to make a post on this website and ask around if anyone knows how to do it just encase.
Thanks for answering! I know that Robz8 made a Fabstyle msg tool but my PC doesn't regconize the files from that so I can't seem to figure out how to make it work. Other than that I've already translated some of the msg files I just need to be able to test them in game since I don't know if the text will actually fit in the dialogue spaces and to see if in context the translation makes sense lol.
You'd need a way to find out where the untranslated text is in which .msg file.
To get the .msg files, you need to extract the Msg .dat files from the DS ROM using DSLazy.
Per @Pk11, the text formatting in the .msg files is Shift-JIS, so you need Visual Studio Code to view them.
Yes I got the .msg files from the text dump you did , and I've been using Visual Studio Code while using the Shift-JIS format to read and translate. Can I get the files back into the rom with DSLazy as well?
Yes. Just click the re-pack button.
Note that there are some words that are colored or something.

Currently I am testing editing them since not all of them fit properly and I made some mistakes that I want to correct.

That's why I was translating it for myself a little here and there to make it playable. Figured I might as well go for it all the way. Of course I don't know how long it will take since it is just me and I just translated only 1 .dat file... there's almost 200.

That's good to know :3, well you could try asking for volunteers on the discord translation group if anyone wants to help you out - like work with you on the translation for the gane ^^ if you need the discord link i can send it here for you can join it - pretty neat people on there.
Good gosh 200 lmao that is a lot..which i do feel your pain there xD i am currently helping out a acquaintance getting the english translation for the game kuro kuro ice figure princess the ds game :> it's going a bit okay, but right now i am about to do my first ever alone translating of the remaining 5 other chapters alone ;o; so i have to try my best, have lots of eye drops with me and pain killers for my jaw - hooray for learning xDD okay :3 i hope it goes well for you

I've used DeepL to successfully translate all of the text of each fashion piece!
Some of them we're long, so I had to shorten some of them, but they look good for the most part.
As DeepL also gave me some rough translations (as expected), such as "Enamel Pumps" for example, I've fixed them by comparing the text to what's on-screen, so I could correct the text from there.
By doing so, "Enamel Pumps" for example, has been corrected to just simply "Pumps", and "3/4-Length Leggings" to what's commonly known as "Capri Leggings".
Some of the translations may still be rough, as I don't own all of the fashion in FabStyle.

This is awesome! I also have the same issue with the character cards since the original translation would never fit. I think it woulnd't interfere with the gameplay when we change texts in this manner. Also if you can let me know what files you've translated or are going to translate then I will make sure that I won't dubble translate things.

I prefer to use real translators instead of translator apps/sites, whenever possible.
