I was thinking about translating using with the help of OCR method but I was wondering if you have a full text dump I could take a look at? Though if not, I completely understand
Here you go! Some of these I already changed to English, and there's some differences from each version, so I uploaded both.

well..!!! :D glad that i mentioned it to you! it's a really decent translator that can translate japaanese text, it's really good but it does have it's flaw though. you gotta like figure it out what the english sentence sounds better for you if you ever stumble upon a sentence that doesn't make sense in the translation which is random but not frequent.

another thing i highly reconmmend is that if you have a japanese sentence formed like this:
まだ話していない人がいるみたいね
「!」マークがついてる人は
大事な話があるみたいよ

instead of putting it on the translator just like that, put them together like a complete sentence and you will see a huge difference, this is just encase the sentence comes out awkward when you are trying to translate it - like the form of it. however if you put the sentence formed correctly:

まだ話していない人がいるみたいね 「!」マークがついてる人は 大事な話があるみたいよ

And it gives you a rough not so good english translation - that's when i mean that you gotta work with it to see what makes better sense to you =3

The image links are broken.
Can you please upload the images here, instead of using imgur?

EDIT: Nvm, I see them.

Those aren't regular text files. You'll need something like a hex editor to view them, and even then, you can't see the Japanese text characters.
The Japanese text characters seem to be UTF-16 type, or something else that's 2 bytes.

At this point, it'd be better to just use image captures of dialogue.

Hm... I saw that you made a tool which can convert those .msg files to .dat, but I hope you don't mind me asking, if you couldn't see the Japanese text, then how did you manage to reimport English text? Trial and error?

@HinaNaru Cutie Probably means playing through the game and using an OCR to turn the screen (images) into text that you can edit. The font looks pretty standard, so an OCR shouldn't have too much trouble identifying the text as long as it's set up correctly. Honestly, that's not really an ideal method because not only is it a pain to pull out each sentence by hand, but also however text reinsertion is being done you'll probably end up having to copy and paste each line back over which is enough to drive anyone mad lol. But maybe @Robz8 will have more to idea about that.

By the way, I think it's really wonderful that you're trying to translate games the best you can! Even a proffessional translator has to do some legwork to make a translation sound good, so I think, give me someone with the determination to translate a game they can't understand over a lazy translator any day :lol: But, I don't think just relying on DeepL is the way to go. If I might be so bold as to plug my own post lol, I reccomend you read my guide (it explains about OCR stuff too.) Although it doesn't produce natural sentences like DeepL can, RomajiDesu is my no1 tool for translating because then you can really understand each word, and with the translation suggestions from things like DeepL and Google Translate, you make a sentence that's really accurate. I hope it can be useful to you :D

@HinaNaru Cutie That's great, i'll leave the translation in your capable hands as you seem to know what you're doing! ^^ I totally agree with what @TigerTiger said about how great it is to see someone determined to try and help translate this after so long! (also I definitely recommend checking out their guide, it was really helpful for me anyway) I wish you and @Robz8 luck with this! ^^

Those are weird, they seem to be in Shift-JIS, but using half-width katakana for all kana. It seems to default to hiragana with "[escape]K" changing to katakana and "[escape]H" back to hiragana. ([escape] being 0x1B, renders like a thin space for me).

In Visual Studio Code you can click the UTF-8 on the bottom bar and "Reopen with encoding..." -> "Japanese (Shift-JIS)" and they show right, or since there's a lot you can set "Files: Encoding" in settings to "Japanese (Shift-JIS)" to change the default.

Examples:
msgsec004/1.msg said:
姉カラ譲リ受ケタKアパレルH
KショップHノKオHーKナHー。20歳
妹から譲り受けたアパレル
ジョッブのオーナー。20歳

msgsec004/4.msg said:

KエH。16歳。KクHーKルHニ見エル
ガ、イタズラッポイ面モ

エ。16歳。クールに見える
が、いたずらっぽい面も

msgsec010/103.msg said:

If you can read kana decently then it's not too hard to fix, then you can translate from there

I made an account just for this. I would really like to help out. My Japanese isn't amazing but I've manually trying to translate bits and pieces of the game through printscreens , while using different translators. So I can reference it while playing. It is a slow process but it works fine! Since my account is new I sadly can not upload samples of what I've translated. Perhaps there is another way for me to share?

If you can't upload them as attachments, try uploading it through somewhere like Dropbox, Google Drive, or imgur.

@Pk11 I can't believe you made sense of that... That's amazing :rofl2: I saw stuff like that with a hex editor and just thought it was all garbage in the wrong encoding. There is stuff like katakana>hiragana convertors to speed it up, but ideally I guess you'd want a way to tell it how to use the K and H stuff too.
