TheFlow announces WIP 'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' port for the PS Vita

Sony might have forgotten that it has a gaming handheld called the PS Vita but the homebrew scene hasn't. One of the latest works from the scene comes from TheFlow, who also recently disclosed an exploit on the PS4's firmware 7.55. Via a recent tweet, the modder announced that he managed to port the Android’s version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas to the PS Vita by writing a .so (Shared Object) loader and replacing shaders.

TheFlow mentioned that this port wasn't as difficult as it might sound and got the game to run "at a good framerate", although it is still a work-in-progress with "lots to optimize".

Modder Rinnegatamante, who is helping TheFlow with renderer code, released a video of a recent build of the GTA: San Andreas port on the Vita and mentions that the current issues are mostly related to graphics quality and framerate:

Additionally, in the video description, Rinnegatamante clarifies that the whole port was done by TheFlow and that his work "basically makes possible to literally run the official Android apk on PSVita".

It's their most recent one, but I don't think it's exactly considered current in commercial terms at least.
With Sony no longer supporting the Vita, no intention to make another handheld, yet their love of allowing players to remote play their console PlayStations with a handheld; I wonder if Sony could work something out with Nintendo where if a player owns both a PS4 or PS5 and a Switch/Lite, that they could allow you to remote play your PlayStation with your Switch. That'd be so crazy to see, I know they had surveyed their own playerbase a year or so ago asking if they'd like such a feature, so clearly they've at least considered it.

Yeah here's hoping, that survey gave me some hope as well.

Wonder how he's going to get the framerate sorted?

Great tech achievement though and along with III and VC it makes the Vita the home of 3D GTAs plus they'll all look awesome on the OLED screen.

chronologically-speaking, the PS Vita is still Sony's current-gen handheld, no?
it's part of the 8th gen, but technically as of right now, there is no thing such as current gen, we are in a transitional period, when the Xbone and ps4 start to only get fifas and cods, 9th gen will be current gen

This would be amazing on Switch. (Yes I know about android)

What are the main differences of the Android version of SA when compared to the PS2/PC versions?
When playing the android port of VC I noticed that the car handling was way, way different, to the point of being unenjoyable for me, so I'm curious if they did something similar to SA.

I guess reducing the texture size and object complexity is going to be his only practical option, unless he's made some simple mistake in his porting layer or they put some dumb code in that is slowing the game down that can just be nop'd out.

I Ruddy Can't Wait for this not only having GTA SA on Vita but other Android Ports might be possible in the future ..?>?<?

It's kinda possible that other games could be ported too.

It could end up the android on vita equivalent of running windows apps on linux using wine.

I prefer the ergonomics of the Vita. Anything bigger for a handheld just doesn't make sense to me. When I'm using my switch "lite" my messed up shoulders and arms start to cry in agony after 20 minutes. I'm glad this is being worked into the vita before the switch.

As odd as such a hypothetical is, it actually could be argued to be mutually beneficial for both Sony and Nintendo, encouraging PlayStation owners to go buy a Switch if they want a great way to play on the go, and encouraging Nintendo owners to buy a PlayStations if they want to greatly expand the amount of playable content on their own system. Given how well Nintendo and Microsoft work together these days, I really can't dismiss the idea entirely like I would have 5 years ago. Like at this point I wouldn't be surprised at all to see streaming GamePass on the Switch, or Microsoft and Nintendo teaming up to allow remote play of your Xbone/Series X with you Switch.
