@Aegehn

I would PM you but this is a new account.

I know this is a dead project but I was hoping you could help with something. I'm working on a very similar project but have hit a bit of a wall.

I can see all the cutscene subtitles are contained within CSV files within scaleform.cpk and I was able to get them to accept an english font by stealing your font_subtitles.pspf (I hope you don't mind).

Where I hit a roadblock is the ingame text. I suspect the story text is contained within the SEQ_MAIN_**.pack files within but have no idea how to get into them. Could you help me with how to get into the *.pack and ***_TEX files?

I thought I had a solution for Ch 7 but apparently not.

Unfortunately the chapter 7 tailing mission requires saving at the phone booth just to the west of the starting point and switching to an unmodified ISO.

First and foremost, thank you so much to everyone who had a hand in working on this translation and release. The state of the translation as-is is more than enough for so many of us, and I know I speak for several of us who have been waiting for years when I say this. We're happy to be able to experience this game and story at all, and you've given us that much.

Second, for people having issues with the tailing mission crashing: I remember people having similar issues on fan translated games in the past like .hack//LINK and Valkyria Chronicles 3. There would just be certain common parts of levels or missions or menus that could crash the game, and some of it was needed for story progression. One way around this can be an unmatched iso, you should be able to load your same save file onto the other iso and play past the part that crashes then save and switch back.

The best most surefire way, in my opinion, is to use a physical UMD should you have the means. I specifically hacked my old PSP for this reason, instead of using an emulator on phone or PC, or even hacking the Vita. I would rather play on the Vita or PSTV, but I play on the PSP just so that if I hit a snag or a crash, I can pop in the original UMD disc and guarantee myself getting by and then switch back to my patched iso. I know this isn't ideal for people without a hacked PSP or people who don't want to import the game, but I thought I'd throw it out there for people like me who will, because it works.

Is there any project for the second Yakuza game of any other group or person?

I'm trying. My goal is to just do a story translation like Aegehn's BP 1 WIP release. I've done all the cutscenes files with AI translation as a placeholder and am in the process of script editing. By running diff between Aegehn's BP 1 ISO and an unmodified BP 1 ISO I've a fairly good idea of what is where and what needs to be edited as BP 2 follows an almost identical file structure. I have people that can help with translation.

Where I'm stuck is tooling. I what files need to be edited, I just don't know how. I've tried to contact Aegehn but have been unsuccessful. I've talked to KHH but he wasn't involved in any of the technical aspects. I've talked to some of the Yakuza modding people and Ishin translation people but they don't know either as these titles were outsourced and are completely different in structure to all other Yakuza releases. It's the pack and TEX files that are giving me trouble. Nothing I've thrown at them has worked so if anyone has any ideas feel free to contact me. I'll check back every few days.

Thank you for your effort, I wish I could help. I played GachiTora Abarenbou Kyoushi in High School in Japanese (not finished yet but played hours) but Yakuza games are more story driven and story is cool to follow.

I hope you will be successful. I was planning to start Yakuza 2 right after this but now I decided to wait a few years.

@Notocu, I don't know how helpful it would be because I don't know how different the different PSP game files are, but maybe try asking someone who's worked on a different PSP English Patch. If they worked on a game with a similar internal setup, they may be able to help you out. I know .hack/LINK was finished within the past couple years, so that person may still be around (that was on a different website I think, but still). Also, Persona 2 Eternal Punishment PSP is still being worked on by Iwakura Productions and they even have a discord, so you may be able to reach out to someone there for some general questions.

Just an idea.

I think for the substories, you can just use machine translation, as long as its understandable, its better than not knowing at all

Hey there, @Notocu sorry I also can't PM you since this is a new account but would you be able to tell me where the font_subtitles.pspf is located within the game files and how you accessed it? I'm also interested in starting to translate at least the cutscenes but I don't have a lot of the technical knowledge.

I've been able to access the .csv files for the cutscene text but obviously it just shows up as asterisks in game. If you could provide any help I'd really appreciate it, thanks!
