Sonic 1 and 2 (2013) for the Nintendo Switch

Told ya a second port of CD had a purpose... totally.

This port is based off of Rubberduckycooly's decompilation.

If you run into any issues, please check the source repository first; most of the known issues are not exclusive to this port. (Including the lack of a proper title screen.)

This is a rude fork, why did the "author" not just PR the original repo? So many people trying to make an easy name for themselves off of other people's work.

Though if I was upstream, I would not accept a PR from this repo as the code appears to be low quality.

It's a little funny that the Switch is now the one and only platform to get the whole Whitehead Sonic quadrology - with SCD2011, Sonic 1 & 2 here, and the official release of Mania. (Unless hb ports exist on PS4/Xbone)
Also funny that these ports work a bit more smoothly than CD, despite the absolutely spartan frontend replacement. In a twisted way, I kind of prefer it to having to go through logos and the original, slower 3D menu system.

And it's good that the level select cheat as found in mobile still applies here. Only problem I've had is font corruption in Sonic 2 after exiting back to the menu, but it cleared itself out after going to a subpage, so... *shrug?*

All we'd need now is S3-AIR and make this strange polygon of Retro-based Sonic re-releases complete.
sonic cd is on switch??

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So these are the enhanced mobile ports/remakes? I finally don't have to deal with stupid, inaccurate touch controls to play 'em?
SWEET.
you never had to but ok

TC has literally been retweeted by the guy who made the decomps? Weird complaint on your part
heyheyitsjoeway's code isn't low quality, maybe it would be if they put rude and dehumanizing messages into their program like "gay couples adopting children is child abuse" and "gender dysphoria is a mental disorder", or making it so their program doesn't work with other programs installed solely out of personal grudges, their code would be considered low quality by the community
I don't recall them doing those things even a little, but I do recall somebody in this thread doing so, cough cough not naming any names for the sake of following the rules lmao
And you say they're being rude but I don't see them pointing a gun at anybody either, not even their family members :gun:

Putting political messages into programs doesn't make the quality of code better or worse though.

This fork exists only due to attention seeking. The author has made no attempts to add it back to the original repo. blawar already added NX code to original repo. It is very rude to fork add support for something and not contribute it back to the original repo. Funny how you say blake's code is low quality when the person who made the repo reviewed and accepted his PR for NX support.

Hey, you know what'd be sick, though. Someone taking this decomp, and stickin' the Drop Dash in Sonic 1/2/CD.

Honestly, it's hard to go back to a Classic game without the Drop Dash, it's just so useful.

I'm glad to see this thread is full of constructive, not-at-all armchair-leaning dialogue.

Considering this is from the same developer who is(/was?) behind the Sonic 2 Community thingymajig, which essentially would be that game's equivalent to A.I.R., I think they have enough credibility to not deserve being called 'attention seeking'?

They also went out of their way to bring over and maintain Robo Blast 2 and -Kart without any kind of obligation. I don't recall any such comments being made about those ports.
Regardless, OP is contributing to the decomp efforts anyways, so this really shouldn't be a discussion worth having.

Should mod support be a real and popular thing with these ports (which seems to be the plan, going off the repo), it should be possible to implement new things like the Drop Dash or Instant Shield into 1/2/CD. Just takes someone to do that job.

Anyway this thread shouldn't become about that stuff because it's disrespectful to those putting hard work into these ports, people making this kind of work should be welcomed and given reasons to stick around, not driven away

I was just taken aback by the elephant in the room stampeding in and smashing shit with his trunk, it deserved comment
The community would be a better place without shit-stirring and unvarnished antagonism from zealots with a whole graveyard of skeletons in their closet, towards newcomer people who are friendly and helping with the community
Stones, glass houses, etc, people who habitually harm the community with their antics should not be suffered or humored

What contribution? Only contributions for decomplication were from Rubberduckycooly/MGRich/cuckydev. Adding a Makefile doesn't mean he is contributing anything. (And that process was already done by blake and posted to the main project already, making this fork completely useless). This fork doesn't even support analog, blake's does.

It is disrespectful for the people who took time to actually decompile the project to only have someone else come and add something to it and release their own builds without contributing back to the original project. This kind of behavior makes the actual developers who puts time and effort in decompiling this project to just leave.

REMINDER: It was blake and not the author of this post to add support for the NX build in the original repo.

You're not helping. I was talking about this thread derailing into political nonsense just because of one post of blawar being blawar.

Also, for the record, I have been in contact with RubberDuckyCooly and the rest of the modding team and they have supported my efforts. Not once have they thought anything was "selfish"; I prefer to keep ports in their own forks as to not clutter the original repository (See: SRB2). If anything, adding it to the main repo gives them more code to maintain. I'm happy to see something got added upstream though.

yeah you're right I'll shut up, my bad, it was not my intention
if somebody annoys me it's probably better not to give into the desire to engage
