Pretendo Network is a service replacement for the Nintendo Network online services on the WiiU and 3DS family of consoles in development. Today I’m here to show off a demo of a WiiU connecting to our custom Miiverse replacement we call Juxtaposition

Nice! Congrats on this, didn't even know it was a thing until about 2 months ago....!

....Thinking out loud and and jumping waay ahead as I know its very early but I noticed that we will need to register an account for proper use rather than use our NNIDs but can I ask if this supports or possibly will in future link post comments to the wara wara plaza the way miiverse would show posts on it and if so what impact would it have on those of us who have added a modded xml via @MikaDubbz custom wara wara plaza tutorial here?

I had already asked on Reddit, my question: Nice, now to what end will this reimplement Miiverse features? Will it only be when you visit the Miiverse applet and you can browse and post in the communities? Or will it extend to in-game uses too, like players leaving images in Splatoon, or the Miiverse messages in bottles in Wind Waker HD? Furthermore, will it permanently overwrite your Wara Wara Plaza? I ask because I did the thing where you can make your own custom Wara Wara Plaza where the 10 games being talked about are selected by yourself, and you can change what every Mii has said. I'd prefer to keep my custom Wara Wara Plaza if possible.

Jaydabirb's response: This is a complete reimplementation of Miiverse. I've had features working in most games for awhile now, we only recently managed to patch the applet. As for Wara Wara Plaza, we don't currently have patches that are early enough in the boot process to get it to pull from our servers, but the endpoint is supported. Your offline file will still be loaded until those patches are made.

Interesting. I'd also like to keep my custom plaza so it does pose a problem if and when those patches are applied to the final release.

Most people I believe would probably want the old miiverse experience therefore I would expect the patches to be implemented so maybe not updating the app would be an option if released in that format would be best.

Maybe I misunderstood, but it sounds like it will release without changes to Wara Wara being implemented and down the line they hope to update Pretendo to also feature Wara Wara implementation. And hopefully if that is the case, if you don't want to change the plaza you can just stick with the earlier version of Pretendo. I'm definitely jumping to conclusions here, I recognize that, but it seems like to me a scenario similar to that is what will be happening.

Just wanted to add onto this, I'm the main developer for Miiverse related stuff over at Pretendo, and also the person who originally wrote the program to generate custom Wara Wara Plaza files. At the moment we're planning on releasing Juxt without Wara Wara Plaza support. The main reason for this is because we need the ability to patch the policy list to enable the service that requests Wara Wara. The policy list is requested around the time CBHC is loaded, but I haven't been able to confirm if it's before or after at this time. So for the time being, your modified offline file will still be displayed. If/When we have a working patch early enough in the boot process, Wara Wara will be downloaded from our API server instead. This will contain the most popular communities and posts from the last 24 hours.

In case anyone is curious on how Miiverse originally worked, when the system boots, it makes a request to nppl.app.nintendo.net/p01/policylist/1/1/US. This policy list specifies what background services run and at what priority level. Wara Wara Plaza specifically is oltopic. When set to a priority level that isn't stopped, the system menu makes a request to api.olv.nintendo.net/v1/topics?people=300&region_id=2&language_id=1 which responds with a 302 redirect specifying which xml to download. What file is sent to your system depends on your language, region, and parental controls. typically the response was this: olvus.cdn.nintendo.net/xml/warawara/L1/us/all/all.xml. (fun fact, the OLVCDN is still up and running, and you can request Wara Wara xml files for all regions, languages, and parental control levels, though they have been expired since 11/16/2017, and the console refuses to load them) The console also goes through this process in standby mode (when it has a yellow light)

Does this mean that if we utilize Pretendo prior to Wara Wara implementation, and at the time you add the implementation, we'll automatically be ushered into the Wara Wara Plaza that Pretendo dictates, or will we need to update Pretendo on our end to get the added Wara Wara functionality? I really would hate to lose my custom plaza at this point, but I also definitely want to see Miiverse functionality restored within games on the Wii U. Hate to find myself conflicted down the line.

The patcher (at least afaik atm) is not currently planned to be automatically updated, so you would be able to stick with an older version with no issues. (unless we have to make a drastic change like moving domains, but that's unlikely)

This is getting me hyped, with how fundamental Miiverse was for most of the Wii U's online stuff it was stupid the removal of the service, you can't talk to friends and many games feel dead, and so does the Wara Wara Plaza (yes I know I can customize it but, eh).

Also I always wondered but never got to experience: if you install a game with a custom title ID, say, a VC inject, how would this act on the original Miiverse when entering through the home menu to try posting a screenshot? And, how will it be here?

Thanks for the confirmation @Jemma and thanks for the hard work and effort you guys are putting into this. It's a great idea I never thought would be done so it's real good to see the love for Wii U is still here!

Amazing. I love my Wii U. It gets constant play weekly. Sometimes getting a little more play than the switch by one of my little ones.
