No need for removing any hack that your console has now!

Please do this: turn on your console while you pressing the SELECT button, and check if then Luma config menu is prompted (and if yes, check for the actual Luma version indicated on)

here's mine. of these, I don't need _gba, _nds (both for twilight men ++ iirc), boot9strap (will be created automatically if you dump the otp.bin, and boot9 and and 11.bin at bootup), cias (for my cia stuff), debug (I think it's linked to ntr), dq8res (dragon quest 8 stuff), fti (rocket slime), gb or gba (roms), jksv (for saves with jksv), maple (translation), nds (nds roms), ntr debugger or viewer (ntr stuff), plugin (ntr), BOOT.NDS (twilight menu++), games supported by widescreen and gameyob (both twilightmenu++), ndstokyotrim (trims nds and gba roms), ntr.bin (only needed if using ntr), The Legend of Zelda - Majora's Mask.ico (icon that appears when sd card is plugged in), usrcheat.dat (cheats):

whatever is left is what you need just for simple homebrew or luma functionality.

This screenshot from the guide essentially shows everything that is necessary to have on the SD card. Anything else is either generated by homebrew apps that exist on the 3DS/SD card, or simply no longer necessary because of the move from A9LH to B9S.

boot9strap isn't necessary. you can delete the folder. it's for the opt.bin, and arm bins which you can get at boot up with a button combo. cias also is for cia files, but you can place them on the root. and DCIM is for camera photos, unneeded if you have none. you also don't need arm9loaderhax.bin if using b9s.

btw, here's that boot9strap folder:

if you're using a splash screen, it won't appear. in fact, nothing will happen as the system will halt booting. release the buttons to continue the boot process with your new boot9strap folder.

I would not delete the 3ds folder though especially since the dsp dump is placed there (if the previous owner ever ran a dsp dump) and some homebrew requires that for audio. Probably a good idea to go through each homebrew in there individually and just delete the ones he doesn't care about. Stuff like old menuhax manager/ironhax installer, that were included in the homebrew starter kit but nowadays are pretty pointless, can be safely deleted.

I skipped over the 3ds folder on purpose. ;) I didn't know what anyone used among the homebrew. I wouldn't worry about it. it takes up very little space, and you usually won't have to see it. I opted for the 3ds version of ftp instead of cia for example.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.

Hope you've had a good morning.

It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
