Hello!

I have a problem with my homebrewed Wii. Some games (in this case Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Wii Party) are not loading through my USBLoaderGX. I get a black screen when I try to load them. The funny thing is, when I launch Mario Kart or LEGO Star Wars The Complete Saga, it works and I can play it. I have already tried the loading settings 'Standard Disk'. I have made a System check, so maybe you guys can help me. I am completely new to Wii modding so I help you can help me out.

Hello,

correct syscheck report.

try to redo the Dump (original copy) of your game, maybe it is corrupted !!

With wii backup manager, you can see if your game is corrupted, by going to "tools", then "SHA1-hash", then "check item or all".

If it's green ==> OK
If it's red == <to delete and redo the dump

Ok. Looking closer at your SysCheck! Things are not well with your softmod! Please run ModMii on your PC, then follow instructions. I promise you, this IS the problem!!! Use ModMii, follow the instructions, fix your problems, be very happy!!! I'd really like to know what softmod guide you used? Please share.

Thanks for your answer! I just remodded my Wii using ModMii, and followed the whole guide. Now, when I try to launch the game in USBLoaderGX it still doesn't work.. LEGO Star Wars and Mario Kart are still working and running, the rest not...

What can it be..

PS: this was the guide I used before I installed ModMii:

How do you mean USB support? My games are on the USB stick transferred on them using Wii Backup Manager. I have the most recent version of USBLoaderGX downloaded from SourceFrog.

Oh btw, the game i'm experiencing the black screens with are Wii Party and Super Mario Galaxy 2

Me, I say the problem comes from your USB key (key), very often they work badly with the wii ==> either black screen or does not start :hateit: ,
even @alexander1970 and other people will confirm it

look at other topics on the forum, many use usb keys, and when told to use an external hard drive, everything works by magic.:yaywii:

Try to test an external hard drive, either at home or in your surroundings, then format it to fat 32 and use wii backup manager and you will see.:yayu::yay:

Hi!

I tried a external hdd today but that didn't work too. Mario Kart and Lego Star Wars (IOS 33 & 36 games) are playable but Wii Party and Super Mario Galaxy 2 (both IOS 56) aren't. Could it be something with the IOS version, or maybe the region?

I'm starting to get out of solutions..

Greetz,
Nick

@Refuzer Hi!
I have a similar issue to you.
I've installed 3 games ( Super Mario Galaxy 2, Big Brain Academy and Monopoly Streets ) they are in .wbfs and my usb drive is on FAT32. My games show up in Usb Loader GX, however when I click on the game, it says settings and start at the bottom with a black screen above. I click start and instead of the game loading, it takes me back to the wii menu. I still haven't found a fix to this yet but i'll let you know and hopefully it can help you out too :)

Hello,

Please test the version of usb loader gx v1271, please ==>https://sourceforge.net/projects/usbloadergx/files/Releases/New revisions (3.0+)/

try to change the IOS in your loader settings, either put 249 or 058 and see the result?

may be that your external hard drive needs a Y cable, for better connectivity with wii.

hello,

Did you try Wiiflow too ?
seeing you tested different loader, and different devices (flashdrive and hard drive), I could think that :

Good:
- IOS should be fine, as other games are working
- both devices are fine (even the flashdrive, if some of your games work, it means it can be initialized with cIOS). note that it means "read" is working, but "write" might not. Though, there's no write while playing wii games, only gamecube/emuNAND and other homebrew.

Hardware related:
- Do you have more than one USB plugged at once?
- Do you use a dedicated SD card for ALL your homebrew, or do you put homebrew on USB ? (boot.dol, icon.png, meta.xml, and all the files used by homebrew?). Please, use SD card ! NEVER put homebrew on USB. one less problem to have to care about when debugging.

file related
- are you using Fat32 or NTFS or something else ?
- If using FAT32, be sure the wbfs file is NOT "read only" in the file attribute setting on your computer. Unknown why, but it cause black screen.
- Did you verify the "wbfs files" directly on your device, on the backup on your computer? just to exclude file corruption on your device.
- Could you list, or screenshot the folders ? just curious about the folder hierarchy, and file name layout.

- Did you dump your own discs using USBLoaderGX directly to the device ? (flashdrive/hdd), I don't care if you downloaded your game somewhere you shouldn't, that's just for debug sake to know where you get your source, from disc, or from internet.
- If it's internet, then I'd like to know the format you found. (iso, wbfs, ciso, bin, other?)
- are you converting a ISO to wbfs from your computer, or do you already have a wbfs on computer ?
Could it be something else but named wbfs ? like a ciso renamed to wbfs !! Wii backup manager might detect it as a good file and just copy to the device, without converting to proper format ? (just an idea, no idea if that's the case nor if it's how that tool works).
- Are you using Wii backup Manager to "convert to ... wbfs" or to "move to .... drive 1" ?
- Which settings in wii backup manager for the file layout? (related to previous question, show me the file name and folder layout)

Software relate (probably not the problem because you have the same problem with different loaders)
- Did you try to reset the loader's settings or the game's settings.
- if you don't reset the game settings, just check that "debug" or "debug pause on start" is not enabled.

For now that's all I can think of, but there might be more possible reasons I forgot.
