Recently, the microSD card I have been using has been broken somehow. Files in the microSD cannot be deleted, files cannot be added, and it cannot be formatted. The new3DS no longer turns on without an SD nor any new SD, It must be the broken SD. I've tried formatting the 3ds but that did nothing. Is there anything i can do aside from get another 3ds?

But it still allows you to read it? Try copying all the files from the SD card to your computer and copying them to a new SD card. If that gives you errors, you can try some data recovery tools.

If your 3DS is modded, try putting the latest Luma3DS boot.firm file on any new SD card. https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v10.2.1

This has happened to me on numerous occasions on my o3ds. It's genuinely pissed me off, you might have some faulty file on the card, or the reader might be screwed up. Afaik the SD itself can't be recovered but you can safely copy all the files on to your drive if you had something important on there. As for the 3DS itself, i haven't had a problem just putting the latest boot.3dsx and boot.firm on a new card and starting fresh

Your SD card has locked itself in read-only mode as a last ditch effort to protect your data. This happens when a nand cell within a sector wears out, and there are no back up cells left to stand in. Be glad that this outcome happened because some people are not as fortunate where their cards don't fail gracefully.

Thanks for the explanation, couldn't have said it better myself. I assume since my o3ds is so old, it might be the reader causing my problem?

Nay on placing the blame on the o3DS SD card slot reader.

What brand and model SD card(s) are you using? Different cards are manufactured to different levels of quality and reliability.

If you want something for heavy duty gaming, try switching over to a pro grade card like one of these.
These were designed around constant 24/7 security surveillance / dash cameras and are probably overkill for the average video gaming application, BUT you pay a little more with the peace of mind that a card like that {hopefully} lasts longer than their standard consumer stuff.
