im on 6.72 and had 2 fails out of 48 tries, think thats pretty stable. for me at least

For someone like me stuck on 5.05, will backporting from 7.02 to 5.05 be something viable?
If there are a games that is... Backporting 6.72 to 5.05 has been working ok so far although not all games work..

I'm pretty sure ghosts of tsushima requires 7.51+. backporting might work, but I highly doubt many games will be compatible. the problem is the sdk that's used using things not present in older firmware. I"m not sure how old 5.05 is but 7.02 isn't really that old.

@KiiWii 's github has a list of games as well. I don't know when 7.51 came out, but I'm thinking March. isn't that when FF7 Remake came out? 7.51 supposedly came out days after that game's release, so it's probably one of the last playable titles.
Be warned that not all games are going to work on 5.05. Look at some games from 6.72 backport wont works on 5.05 either.

I know control and ghostbusters don't work. Joonie of team rebug couldn't get control to work on anything in between 5.05 and 6.72 either, so it's using a later sdk apparently. I'm not sure what the deal is with ghostbusters. those are the only two games I couldn't get to get to at least the title screen. both crash almost immediately.
I didnt manage to get to work NMS Beyond and I forgot what else, but that "what else " im quite sure it was a problem of differences in regions between Base Game and Update...

never tried a different region update. I dumped all my games with their respective patches, so now new games are just downloaded together. I did have to remarry the patch to kingdom hearts 3, but I think that's the only game I encountered that with.

I didn't know they made an MSU cart for the Genesis.... I knew about the SNES one and the library for that is rather large but the Genesis one has very few games+1
