Capcom leak reveals that Nintendo paid $6 million for timed exclusivity on Monster Hunter: Rise

Switch_MonsterHunterRise_Hero.jpg

Not too long ago, Capcom was involved in a ransomware attack, which lead to over 1TB of internal data being stolen from the company. The information was leaked onto the internet, where fans were able to go through the data and learn plans that Capcom had yet to announce. One of those said documents which has recently gained traction is an agreement between Capcom and Nintendo, which led to the latter paying $6 million in order to secure 9 months of timed exclusivity for the upcoming Monster Hunter: Rise, including covering marketing costs and a flat development bonus. The exclusivity agreement also requires Capcom to wait 6 months after the reveal of Monster Hunter: Rise for the Switch before being able to announce it for other platforms, of which the documents also confirm will eventually be headed to PC.

Idk why people in here are so anal about Nintendo buying timed exclusives. Nintendo usually just does timed exclusives for third party IPs unless they're in danger of dying (Bayonetta). The fact they do timed exclusives is better than what other companies do which is buying the exclusivity rights outright.

I think Capcom is working with two engines right now: the classic one they used for Generations, and UE4 which they used for World. Personally, I much prefer Generations to World, so if they do continue to build stuff with that classic engine, I'll be a very happy customer.
LOL, capcom dont use UE4, its using same engine MT Framework for world & generation

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I believe theyll think it as a mainline title. It only looks the way it is currently because of the switch, and it makes sense we had no PC footage of it because of hte fact that the pc footage was supposed to be a secret given the topic of the thread.

Theyll just reuse content from world and downgrade a lot of stuff for it to run on the switch. On a graphical front, when it releases on PC, it probably wont look better than world, just match it. Just a case of one device holding the other devices back in the grand scale (similar to how the wiiu version of III Ultimate was only marginally better than other versions since III was on several devices, including handhelds)
lol the monster arent downgrade, only the environment because gameplay vertical using more hardware resource compared flat on world and rise is targeting handheld config at 307/384mhz (half power docked switch), thats why the downgrade looks obivious

Monster Hunter fighter probably gonna come to Smash if Nintendo likes the property that much. Then again, I dunno how well that works, it kinda makes sense to just keep the monster boss in and that's it, as your actual characters are complete blank slates when you start and you customize them to whatever you want. And I know, we have Villager and Miis, but even those have undeniable characteristics that make them, them, despite how much you can customize them.

6 million for the headache to downgrade a game to run on a potato processor/GPU. Hopefully it runs better than 10 fps like Age of Calamity
lol there is no game from capcom running below 30fps on switch, and they run at lowest config for battery saving with native 720p

So what your saying is, there is a chance we get crossplay? :P would be nice to have crossplay or at least cross saves with the possible pc version
For a long time they couldn't even keep content in sync on different MH:World versions, so I wouldn't bet on them figuring out a good crossplay system.

Something is exclusive to Epic vs exclusive to Steam... I click another program to download it/run it no different than switching between Amazon and Ebay.
You don't need a specific browser to use your favourite ecommerce though, and most importantly - even if you did, you wouldn't need to continue having it installed to use the products you bought!

If you look at modern phones and their fondness for dedicated applications that might be a different but OK. Still essentially a free action though that costs you a fractional amount of storage space (one most modern games will likely exceed in their save files alone, and compared to average storage size of modern drives) vs having to get another console, another set of controllers, another online subscription perhaps, find more space to put it.

So its a bad thing now in Business Profits to actually pay for Timed exclusivity in order to boost their Console Sales?

- not long ago we had Epic Store taking BorderLands 3 hostage for 6 months On PC
- Sony forcing Bungie to make Destiny ! have exclusive Content Mission Maps and[Exotics: Thorn-Hawkmoon] weapons only for their console [2 Weapons that Dominated Trialsof Osiris for years until nerf]
- Microsoft COD Modern warfare 1,2,3 Exclusive Multiplayer DLC Maps for 6 months for XBOX 360
- Tomb Raider Reboot exclusive for XBOX ONE for 1 Year

if i owned Nintedo id buy Capcom as a whole and Konami IP's, and burn Konami office

- the same reason Sony Made Street Fighter 5 exclusive to their console
to force the fighting community to buy a PS4 is the same reason we have these deals

plenty of people will Buy A Nintendo Switch in order to play MH: Raise
stay salty and cry more
