CD Projekt Red apologizes for poor Cyberpunk performance on last-gen consoles, promises updates

EpLqtZ8XEAIEqsX.jpeg

CD Projekt Red's highly-anticipated, long-delayed Cyberpunk 2077 has finally released, but some players are finding the performance lacking on consoles. Despite receiving a last-minute delay in late October, pushing the release date from November 19 to December 10, specifically to enhance performance on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players have been reporting issues such as reduced framerates, certain abilities not working and even game-breaking bugs. While these issues seem to exist primarily on base Playstation 4 and Xbox One, players on the enhanced consoles and even those running the backwards compatible version on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, are running into similar issues. It's worth noting that as of now, Cyberpunk is only playable through backwards compatibility on current-gen consoles, as the native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S ports are not slated for release until Q1 2021. Controversially, CD Projekt Red only gave out PC codes for reviewers prior to release, possibly to obscure the issues plaguing the console ports from those with pre-orders placed. In fact, as of this writing, only two outlets have reviewed the PS4 version on Metacritic, not even enough to generate an aggregate score.

In response, CD Projekt Red released a statement today apologizing for the performance and laying out their plan to improve performance. The first update was released for PC and consoles over the last two days (Xbox received the update a day later than PS4 and PC), and another is expected within the next seven days. There are also plans to release two large patches aimed to fix "the most prominent problems," one in January and one in February. For those unwilling to wait for the patches, CD Projekt Red is offering refunds. If purchased digitally through Playstation Network or Xbox Live, you can request a refund through those channels. (While Sony's refund policy on Playstation 4 stipulates that you can't have begun to download the game, let alone played it, in order to receive a refund, users on reddit are reporting Sony issuing refunds on Cyberpunk.) Those with physical copies are encouraged to seek a refund through the store; however, if that is not possible, they can contact [email protected] for assistance, up until December 21, long before either of the large patches are due for release. It is unclear at this time if policy exceptions on digital purchases through Playstation Network will continue past that date or not.

Played 20 minutes of the game, seemed like a pretty straight forward "AAA" game . I know reviewers hated the driving mechanics with keyboard but seemed just fine for me. I dont see myself playing this for more than a few hours before losing interest and playing old ass games like Runescape lol

Game ran well with some settings knocked down to Ultra.

I honestly think they should've either delayed the last gen ports, gone the Nin10doh route and make it PS4 Pro/XboneX only for that bit of extra power (which Sony expressly forbids), or just straight up abandoned them outright. Either one would result in a ton of backlash, but at least the game would be out there and moderately playable elsewhere. There's simply no way this game was going to run well on 7 year old hardware that was outdated the second it launched. As mentioned earlier, their decision for last gen consoles was going to be lose-lose any way you look at it, and they chose the option that was going to generate the least amount of butthurt: laggy, buggy as fuck mess, but hey at least you get to play it.

A shitty situation all around, but at least CDPR will own up to it and give refunds, so that's nice I guess. Still a shitty company for forcing crunch overtime though.

"Dear customers,

We are so sorry that our game doesn't run 100% glitch-free on systems that weren't even out for 90% of the game's development cycle. Our bad.

Sincerely,

At Least We're Not Bethesda."

No but seriously, they should have staggered their releases and spent the extra time on debugging. The end development was rushed enough as it is, even with the launch delays, there was exactly zero chance of the game working fine on all platforms day one.

Im playing the game on PC. Works like a charm. Yeah it needs alot of power, i had to disable Raytracing to get a stable framerate, but on the other hand, raytracing does not make this much of a difference to me.

Well yeah there are problems on consoles. What of it? As if no other game had problems at launch before. They even give you kind of a extended refund period so what are you complaining about? if you think its unplayable now, refund, wait and rebuy. No Prob.

In my Opinion this game is a Gem. Yeah some edges need a bit of polishing, but still. This game captured me. That hasnt happened in a long time.

Good Work CDPR. You Rock!

The game is having issues on PS4/Xbone, not PS5/Sexbox version (weren't aren't out yet), which were certainly out for 90% of the games dev cycle :P

Oh

I got confused by the "last gen" part.

Very well then.

"Dear peasantry,

Serves you right for even trying to run our masterpiece on such sub-par, stone-age devices.

Sincerely,
CDPR"

The game runs fine on my gtx 970, witch on paper is weaker that a ps4. So probably it is cdprojeck red that did not optimized the game properly.

Aside of that, for my taste, the game is awesome in every single aspect, except the combat and driving. Those aspects really hurt the game badly.

The combat is the worst offender, as you can find more imersive experience in ancient games like skyrim, gta 4, fall out 4...
A GTX 970 outpaces a base PS4 though. Do you mean PS4 Pro?

This game is still a long way off being truly finished.

Tempted to return my copy and wait for the inevitable GOTY edition with all next gen enhancements and DLC etc.
I'll finish it on my "codex-edition" and redo it with another pathway on a bought one when the game will be finished personally, i'm really impressed on how it run on my 3770k bottlnecked by a RTX 2060... without RTX im around the 50-60 everything maxed out.

But yeah, I encountered some Tposing NPCs, disappearing accessories from hands of NPCs (that actually happen quite a lot lol), no crashes yet, but I only played 5-6 hours.

Yeah, a GTX 970 can play 1440p GTA V easy, but a PS4... x)

- Cyberpunk is delayed: people loose their minds and threaten the devs to death. Making them loose 30% of their shares.
- Cyberpunk is released too early thus is buggy: people loose their minds and threaten the devs to death.Making them loose 30% of their shares.
- Cyberpunk is released only focused on last-gen hardware: people loose their minds and threaten the devs to death.Making them loose 30% of their shares.
- Cyberpunk is released only focused on next-gen hardware: people loose their minds and threaten the devs to death.Making them loose 30% of their shares.
- EA and Ubisoft releases yet another copy-pasted buggy mess that will never be patched with loads of microtransactions, DLCs, season passes and ultimate teams: they make a shit load of millions.

The gaming community has become a toxic mess, and that's why I don't play online games, AT ALL.

If they wanted to kill all the good will they had, they sure did a good job at that. If they really gave a damn, they would have delayed the game until 2021, but gotta get dem Christmas sales.

Also, this doesn't really bother me, since I never had any plans to play the game, nor was I ever hyped for the game in the first place. :P

Getting a game Christmas rushed is almost always a bad idea even on this age of online updates.

That the game is 120 GB does not help as people who got the game i something like GOG have to download the whole game again.

Firstly, no. The ps4 gpu is about a 750ti. Second, what resolution/settings are you running it at that it performs well on a 970? I have a 5700xt and I'm playing at 1080p/medium. The fps is in the 50s while driving, embarrassingly low for this card at those settings.

I'm upgrading my RAM from 8gb to 16gb just to play it on my laptop ... I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti I guess my G3 specs are good to play on it. I think the problem is the DEVs was mainly working with it on Next Gen vs last gen. But after so many delays there should have been better beta testing

All things considered, this may well be the Crysis for CD Projekt Red - a game barely playable on its launch but has become a meme and cult benchmark for Gaming Rigs that came after it.

I've seen enough bugs and NPC clipping on the YouTube Channels I follow to know this isn't worth my time even with performance upgrades. It's also sad that Keanu Reeves can't seem to get a good Video Game title to his name; at least cars don't bounce here like they did on The Matrix.

That said, I enjoyed how broken the current game is and the Pistol Exploit I saw on The Spiffing Brit; at least this game is creating content I'd watch.

My set up is very similar - I have a RTX 2060 Super, an i59600k and the game defaulted to Ultra settings with Raytracing on, 1080p. I haven't had any noticeable frame rate drops; the only glitch I've run into has been not being able to pick up some random bottles at times.

In terms of progress, I've been playing for about 9 hours and I just hit the title slide.
