Also known in English as Future Diary: the 13th Diary Owner.

The first game translated will be Future Diary: the 13th Diary Owner
The second game translated will be Future Diary: the 13th Diary Owner Re:Write
The difference is Re:Write has the original voice actors (and some new content).

Most are probably familiar with the popular anime series Mirai Nikki/Future Diary which this is based off of, and since this is my favorite anime, I've decided to start a translation project on the game, as no one else has.

Here is some rough translations I have done on the game:
Diary Image Num1.png

Diary Image Num2.png

The goals of this project:
Translate all images, objects, and text in both games. See this document for a better outline.

Anybody who would like to help out DM me.

However, I've been working on this since March of this year. The main problem is the dialogue is difficult to modify in the game's files, which is now complete for the most part.

Total translation status of the the first game - 1.96%
Chapter 1 - 15.71%
Chapter 2 - 0%
Chapter 3 - 0%
Chapter 4 - 0%
Chapter 5 - 0%
Chapter 6 - 0%

Images - 0%

Edit 1: Fixing grammatical errors.
Edit 2: Outlining the details of this TL project.
Edit 3: Finished outlining the details.
Edit 4: Changed to reflect current translation details.

Omg!!! This is so cool. Thank you for starting a project

(Btw, are the 'g's in your second screenshot supposed to be 9's?) I know nothing about PSP hacking unfortunately  I think it would be good if it could be made so the words don't get cut across (like I tur>>n on the, if you get what I mean?)

I hope you are able to find some extra help with it soon!

Thanks! But no, the g’s in the screenshot are not supposed to be 9’s, they look like that because of the wacky font. The words getting cut across are just a result of a way the game renders the text in the phones (some stupid thing w/ hex). I’ll try to fix it, once I access the dialog.

And some “monthly” update of sorts (more of a list of all progress I have made in the past couple of months, and I’m just dumping this info here):

After searching through the EBOOT file, the only text easily accessible is the diaries and parts of the menus.
So, I’ve tried searching for the dialogue. Most likely the dialog is contained within a conglomerate file called “res.ptd”. The dialog is compressed inside of two compression algorithms. The file header is YKLZ, so the first compression algorithm is LZSS compression whereas the second compression algorithm is most likely Yang-Kieffer compression according to a guy who tried translating a game by the same company (if you are curious look up dual love translation). However, cracking Yang-Kieffer compression is super difficult considering the lack of papers on the subject, and the level of mathematics that goes into it.
I’m currently trying to use PPSSPP’s disassembler to take the code that decompresses the text, and find a way to use that outside of the game. I’ll let everybody know what happens regarding the dialog.

Side Note: there are tons of other things in this file. GIM/MIG files (image files), sound files, & calls to objects. In addition, it isn't just one guy's guess I'm going off of for the YK compression algorithm, in the EBOOT file there is mention of a file labeled "ykFile". Most likely being a decompression algorithm.

Ok, monthly update time. There's good news and bad news.

Good News:
I've found the obfuscation algorithm!

Bad News:
I have to convert the code into C which is taking quite some time. I've got prototypes for the code, but I'm getting a lot of errors. Should be 1 - 10 days before I have the code up and running so it works on any file.

Once I get this algorithm working in C, I'll show some pictures of the game's dialogue (roughly) translated.

I love Future Diary, I never played the visual novel game since I can't read Japanese and I sorta don't want to explode my brain trying to learn lol. I wish you luck, and from one coder to another, feel free to ask me for some help!

I appreciate the help, and I'll take any I can get. What coding languages do you know?

Once I get this algorithm working in C, I'll show some pictures of the game's dialogue (roughly) translated.

I expected this to work, but turns out there a couple of problems which I'll outline below.
1. Whoever coded this game didn't want anybody messing with certain files. The game contains a conglomerate file called res.ptd and if even one character is altered, the game will not build.
2. Even if I could screw around with res.ptd, I still wouldn't be able to give an accurate translation due to character limits and the way their obfuscation algorithm works.

There is a solution that will fix both of these problems. The downside, it'll take quite some time due to the sheer difficulty.

It's been 8 years since the original games release right? Waiting more time is nothing :D

Ganbatte! It sounds like a pain but thank you for sticking with it despite that. I look forward to your updates :toot:

Monthly update regarding October.

I started writing some documentation to track my progress which should decrease the time it will take to translate this game.

Additionally, there is probably only 3 - 6 deobfuscation algorithms. If we assume that this runs smoothly, I should be able to have the game translated by the end of December. There is only 4 things that could get in the way, 2 of which are easily fixable.

Of the list of algorithms, I've found 3 (maybe 4). Converting ASM into C is a pain.

Sorry about this, but the first game translated will be the one without voice actors. You'll have to wait longer for the game with voice actors.

I discovered Mirai Nikki just recently, and I loved it. I'm not exactly a coder, but I wish you the best of luck (This/these game(s) seem very interesting)

Monthly Update regarding November.

I finished writing all of the decompression and deobfuscation algorithms. I wanted to wait until I finished them before I made another update. I don't know if I can actually get the first game translated before the end of December, to be honest probably not. However, progress is moving and its moving fairly fast.

For the most part, the coding I have to do is almost over. At the moment, all I have to do is write a program that combines all of the algorithms and runs them on the whole file. This will take a while, but I don't think it'll be that long.

Hopefully, by the end of the month I'll have all the files decompressed and deobfuscated and maybe even some dialogue translated.

Wow, it's so rare to find someone capable of doing both! Thank you for putting your amazing skill set towards Mirai Nikki  And great that you have help now too! I'm sure that the two of you will be able to come out with something awesome

Monthly Update regarding December.

Honestly December brought about a lot of good things for the translation, but also some roadblocks.

First and foremost, I started writing a program that combines all of the algorithms. What it can do so far is decrypt one file type and find the files within a file. Then, what it's supposed to do is run a specific algorithm depending on what the file needs. However, one of the algorithms won't run on any file because, as it turns out it is part of a larger algorithm, so I need to get the rest of the algorithm for this to work on any file. I'll post an update when I figure out what to run to get any file decompressed.

Secondly, someone came forward to me and said they were working on a script translation for the second game. Considering both games have the same text (the second one has more content) we will be working together as translators. In other words, there is another Japanese to English translator.

Hello everyone! I recently offered to team up with Sermeno14 for an Italian translation of the 2 games. He is doing most of the work, so I can't say much at the moment. But if there are any Italian Mirai Nikki fans, I'm sure they'll be happy of this news

Since you are a Brazilian like me I can suggest you a few places where you can gather info, tools and some guides actually too. The two main forums for that are romhacking(dot)net (if I'm not mistaken there was a PT-BR version perhaps?) and P.O.B.R.E. which is a PT-BR dedicated forum that has a lot of info to help you start. Aside from those two websites you can try to contact HNNEWGAMES on their blogspot, they are a nice group doing some great translations to our language for PSP, PS2, PS3 and etc... Although I don't know if they will help you in any way, but it is worth of a try. Wish ya luck!

P.S.: Oh yeah, check joao13traducoes blogspot for new translations, he also makes some of them and don't forget our golden boy Gledson999!
