Hello,

I would like to update my switch FW and CFW. I have an old one, RCM compatible. I'm not using autoRCM.
I'm on 10.0.1 Sys/Emu and would like to update both too.

I have 2 questions :

1)
I went to switch.guide, but it is still suggesting to use ChoiDujourNX, and I remember this year a new (better/safer) way of updating was released (by hekate.. or AMS, I don't remember). Also I don't remember if I have to enable BIS writing from any AMS config files before updating when using that new tool.
Could someone please refresh my memory ?

2)
Is there a specific order to update ? maybe due to Sept or keys needed extracted from Sys OFW?
If I don't need OFW extracted keys to boot emu, then I think updating emuNAND first is recommended before updating Sys officially from network?

If I'm right:
update hekate/AMS files on SD
put firmware on SD
launch Emu, update it using ... I don't remember the tool (I'll read and learn how to use it)
reboot Emu to see if everything works.

then reboot to Sys and download/install latest update from nintendo?
use Lockpick RCM to get latest firmware keys (from either sys or emu) needed for some homebrew

Draxzelex:
I've never use overclocking and sysmodule....
Do you use anything else while hacking your console? Because if you don't, then its more likely to be a hardware issue.
Question on the Backing up of NAND and BIS keys.

I got to step 6 of "If you weren’t required to copy files during the backup process, once again copy the ‘backup’ folder off of your SD card and put it in a safe location on your PC. Delete the ‘backup’ folder on your SD card."

And continued on like normal all the way to final step of 12 "Copy the /switch/prod.keys file to a safe location."

However I noticed my 29gigabyte backup folder from step 6 isnt in the location on my computer I downloaded it. But I do have the prod.key file where i saved it.

Basically I just want to know if Im safe starting over from step 1 again in this section of the guide to get that backup folder back. Or would that just not do anything?

Note: I still have the backup folder that was much smaller from step 3 of "When finished, remove your SD card (you don’t need to shutdown Hekate), insert it into your PC, and copy the ‘backup’ folder to a safe location on your PC. Afterwards, delete the ‘backup’ folder on your SD card."

Thanks again
Don't redo the whole section of this guide but you should redo part of it. Basically you are going to just recreate the backup that is required in Step 6 so you are going to repeat everything up to that point because the backup in Step 6 can unbrick your console.

  1. Apparently, ChoiDujourNX has been overtaken by a new application called Daybreak which is officially bundled with Atmosphere and has no such issues.
  2. Order generally doesn't matter but its always better to update CFW before firmware as newer versions of CFW support not only the newer firmware versions but the older ones as well unlike older versions of CFW
  3. One thing to note is that the latest firmware is 11.0 which is actually unstable for CFW/homebrew so I would advise against updating to it for the time being. Nothing requires this firmware so you can hold off until everything has been ironed out. If you must update, update no higher than 10.2

Yes I'll wait before updating emu to 11.
for now I don't really need 10.2.0 either, but at least I'll start learning more about Daybreak for when I'll need, thank you !

edit : or maybe target Sys 11 (for online) and emu 10.2.0

Maybe try using a different operating system such as Windows.

I don't have a Windows PC. I could potentially emulate or use Boot Camp on the Mac. I could also try to boot Linux on the Mac. But I wonder if that would make any difference, since I can't get the Fusee Interfacee to recognize the Switch on the same Mac.

If my goal is to eventually download and play Switch games using this, I see that following the 90DNS telemetry portion of the guide will give me a higher level of safety, but at the cost of not being able to do anything online.

Think Ill probably still do it since Im more of a singleplayer guy, but just want to know 2 things.

1. Just to make sure, there isnt really a way to do online activities safely without having this protection? My memory may be foggy here, but I could've sworn with my 3ds back then with emuNAND i could do updates and online stuff, but always needing to make sure I was in that instead of sysNAND. Guessing theres no guaranteed safety for the Switch?

2. Hypothetically, assuming if I go with the 90DNS telemetry portion of the guide, would I be able to remove it at some point in time in case I wanted to test my luck or. Probably not going to reverse it, but figured Id just test the options

Edit: I think I may have asked this question too soon, assuming if Im reading the guide correctly, like 2 pages in we would be creating an emu sort of thing which may be exactly what Im looking for, but anyways ill just wait to confirm with you pros

  1. The Switch also features emuNAND although it is technically called emuMMC because the Switch doesn't have a NAND chip
  2. Yes 90DNS can be freely toggled on and off however removing it can risk you getting banned if you don't restore a clean eMMC backup after running CFW/homebrew

Currently stuck on this step

Launching Atmosphere CFW
To launch Atmosphere:

  1. Enter RCM on your Switch

  2. Push the Hekate payload to your Switch

  3. Tap ‘Launch > CFW (sysMMC)’

When I hit Launch, then CFW (sysMMC), when it tries to load it up, it brings up in red letters

"SD Card is exFAT and installed HOS driver only supports FAT32!

Failed to launch HOS!"

Seems like something is wrong with my SD card? Not sure

Backup your SD Card and format it to FAT32 via Guiformat (google it).

Oh no, I can't believe the guide has you make an emuMMC manually. Forget about all of that, just hop on into Hekate; it can make an emuMMC for you.

So to be on the safe side, since Im not looking at the guide for this step apparently. I loaded into Hekate. I see where it says emuMMC on the right. Im assuming I click on that, and afterwards I see on the top right it says Create emuMMC. Should I push that? If so, do I choose an SD File emuMMC or a SD Partition emuMMC?

Either option works but everyone I know uses partition based.

Im on part 17 of https://switch.homebrew.guide/emummc/windows

I clicked the SD Partition option, however I get a screen that says Failed to find applicable partition. It asks if I want to partition my SD card "You will be asked on how to proceed"

If I do hit Continue, it gives me a Partition Manager screen which shows my 119GiB devoted to HOS (Fat32), and underneath it shows
emuMMC (RAW) ___________0GiB
Linux (EXT4)____________0GiB
Android (USER): _________0GiB

where there is a circle on each line which allows me to devote any amount of GiB towards it. Dont know if i should do anything more without advice

I think you can have it be as big as you want it to be.

Do I want it all devoted towards HIOS (Fat32): or do I want it all devoted towards emuMMC (RAW): ? Or a mixture in between.

My elementary brain is making me think I want emuMMC to be the higher portion, since Im assuming this is like emuNAND on the 3ds, where is where Ill be playing games from. But just making sure. Sorry to keep buggin you

The amount of space you dedicate is what the emuMMC will consider its internal memory. You can make it as big or small as you want since games you install to emuMMC will be on the SD card regardless if you pick internal memory or on the SD. However games installed on the internal memory of emuMMC have the same load times as games installed on the SD card. Also I don't mind the extra questions as I'd much rather prevent an issue than try to fix one.

Ended up doing the SD File emuMMC instead of the SD Partition emuMMC, since couldnt find a partition for me to click on.

But regardless, Ive turned on AutoRCM, which allows me to just use the vol+ and power button, without needing the jig to get into recovery mode. But noticed I still would need to manually inject a hekate payload everytime.

Is there a way to have it so when you turn on the switch like normal or something that it automatically boots into either Hekate or Atmosphere without needing a manual injection? Not really a big deal I guess if there isnt but curious.

Also, when it says "From now on, to boot into stock firmware, select ‘Launch > Stock’ in Hekate." Does stock firmware basically mean like the default out of the box switch settings? Like sysNAND for the 3ds versus emuNAND meaning the modded portion?

Hi:
I have a clean 4.0 NAND backup. I've been using autoRCM to avoid burning fuses. But a while ago I f'ed up and upgraded to 7.0 for real and severak more fuses were burned. I'm wondering is my 4.0 NAND backup still usable? If not what are my options if I want to restore to a clean switch?

Sending a payload is how the exploit works. And the Stock option is similar to OFW but not entirely the same. The main difference is that it will bypass the fuse check but outside of that, it is like booting OFW. However do not think it is safe if you have ever run CFW or homebrew as traces of those persist.

Contrary to popular belief, you can load older firmware versions even if you burnt fuses. The reason people believe otherwise is because usually there is no purpose in doing that. However, if for example, you have a clean backup on a firmware lower than your current fuse count, you can still restore it as long as you keep AutoRCM enabled. Otherwise, you will have to manually enter RCM as the console will brick if you try to boot normally (this brick is not permanent either as you can still just turn off the console).

Hey guys. Need some help here. I accidentally updated my switch to 11.0 on the sysnand. I updated the files to the new prerelease atmosphere but i keep getting a error code 2002-2634 (0x149402)

I can boot my switch as normal but it no longer boots into emunand.
